Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Henry Pollock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Valentjin Overmaars! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pollock misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Overmaars fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pollock, pushing him back against the cage. A right hook to the body lands for Overmaars.
Overmaars breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Overmaars fails in his attempt to clinch. Overmaars missing with a left hand there. Pollock was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Pollock swats away the attempt to clinch by Overmaars. Overmaars doesn't succeed with the takedown and Pollock counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Pollock thows a huge punch but Overmaars dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pollock thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Overmaars's head. Overmaars is trying to control but can't.
Pollock thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Pollock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Overmaars keeps working. Overmaars regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Pollock.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pollock thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Pollock pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Overmaars is keeping the position for now.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Overmaars looks to clinch so Pollock counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pollock stands and steps away. Overmaars gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Overmaars with a poor takedown so Pollock counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Pollock throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Overmaars works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Overmaars controls Pollock momentarily but Pollock frees himself. Overmaars keeping moving, preventing Pollock from controlling successfully. Pollock is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Pollock scoring with some ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pollock decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Pollock is breathing heavily. This has been an exciting period of action! Overmaars tries for a takedown but Pollock circles away easily so Pollock counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Henry Pollock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Valentjin Overmaars. Pollock drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Overmaars dives on top into guard. Overmaars throwing strikes but missing. Overmaars must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Pollock has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Overmaars is looking to work some ground and pound but Pollock has wrist control. Overmaars pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pollock is keeping the position for now. Pollock has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Pollock is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Pollock has a closed guard, preventing Overmaars from standing up. Pollock looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Overmaars trying to control the position from guard on top but Pollock is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pollock circles away from the clinch attempt and Pollock counters with a takedown into side control. Overmaars is looking to reverse the position. Pollock tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Henry Pollock overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Pollock tries to move into full mount but can't pass Overmaars's legs. Pollock is looking to take a break and control but Overmaars is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Pollock tries for a kimura but Overmaars is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pollock decides to take the fight back to the feet. Overmaars tries to clinch and Pollock counters with a nice body kick.
No luck for Pollock with that takedown attempt. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Overmaars with a poor takedown and Pollock counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pollock. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Pollock as Overmaars tries to tie him up. Pollock goes for a takedown attempt but Overmaars pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Valentjin Overmaars seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Overmaars tries to land a body kick and Pollock counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Pollock has gone for a leg lock! Overmaars slips out almost immediately though and dives into Pollock's guard. Overmaars is looking to stand up but Pollock won't let him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pollock is looking for a triangle but Overmaars pushes his legs off easily.
Pollock not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Overmaars trying to control the position from guard on top but Pollock is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Overmaars avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Pollock slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Pollock dives in and grabs Overmaars's left leg, looking for a takedown. Overmaars pushes down on Pollock's head and hops out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Henry Pollock. That's going to take a lot out of him. Overmaars fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pollock sprawls well initially but Overmaars persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Overmaars wants to pass the guard but Pollock is defending well. Pollock keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Henry Pollock dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Pollock doesn't succeed with the takedown and Overmaars counters with a takedown into side control. Pollock is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Pollock is looking to control Overmaars's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pollock avoid being mounted? Overmaars prevents Pollock from improving his position. Overmaars wants to control but Pollock is keeping him busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Overmaars working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Pollock's thigh. Pollock counters though and makes it back to full guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Overmaars got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pollock has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Overmaars has managed to get both his arms back between Pollock's legs - danger averted. Overmaars wants to control from the top but Pollock keeps moving. Pollock keeping full guard, as Overmaars tries to pass.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Pollock seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Henry Pollock is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Pollock has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Overmaars wants to stand but Pollock is controlling his posture from full guard. Pollock wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Overmaars pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pollock is keeping the position for now. Overmaars sitting in guard, not really doing much.
