PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mark Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kelsey Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Murphy comes into the arena with Lose Yourself - Eminem blaring out of the sound system. Kelsey Curtis is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Murphy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kelsey Curtis!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Murphy misses.
Murphy slaps away a takedown attempt from Curtis, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Murphy lands with a thumping leg kick.
Murphy just misses with a punch to the body.
Murphy cracks Curtis with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Curtis will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Curtis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Murphy's half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Curtis cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Curtis wants to control the pace but Murphy is squirming around nicely.

The referee warns Murphy that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Curtis goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Murphy is on top in guard.

Murphy slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Curtis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Murphy has Curtis up against the cage in a clinch.
Curtis drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Murphy gets the underhooks and prevents it.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Murphy goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Curtis has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Murphy but great work by Curtis.

Curtis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Murphy knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

and Murphy counters with a shoot takedown. Curtis fights it but they end up in guard.

Murphy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Curtis manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Murphy has Curtis in his guard.

Curtis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Curtis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Murphy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Murphy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Curtis tries to close the distance and clinch but Murphy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Kelsey Curtis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Curtis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Murphy is trying to control the action in half guard but Curtis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
