PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Stark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rob Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tony Stark!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams looks to land a combination but Stark avoids it well.

Williams gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stark to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Williams has his foot on Stark's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stark works his way back into a safe position though.

Stark drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Stark jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Stark throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Williams works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Williams working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Stark.
Stark is standing up over Williams. Williams looks to escape but Stark dives into side control.
Stark misses with the ground and pound.
Stark is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Williams's shoulder. That is not cool.
You can see the frustration on Williams's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Williams shoots and misses

and Stark counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Williams being controlled against the cage.
Williams wants to break the clinch but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stark pulls guard successfully.

Stark is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Williams defends well.
Stark trying to control the position.

Williams got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stark has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Williams has managed to get both his arms back between Stark's legs - danger averted.
Stark being controlled here, momentarily.
Williams thows a big elbow that misses.
Stark is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stark manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Williams manages to get himself to full guard.
Stark content to stall in guard here.
Stark distracts Williams with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Williams utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Williams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Stark trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.
Stark with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Williams keeping full guard, as Stark tries to pass.
Stark scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Stark throws a big right hand that misses.
Stark stands and throws Williams's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Williams tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Stark looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stark in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Stark cracks Williams with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.


It looks like Rob Williams has been cut.
BOOM! Stark connects with a massive shot to the dome!


Rob Williams's cut is getting worse.
Stark lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Stark has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Williams bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Stark is trying to keep Williams in close.
Williams trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Stark looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Williams is looking to stand up but Stark won't let him.

Stark escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Williams gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Williams is breathing heavily.

Stark throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Stark working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Williams doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Williams manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Stark dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Rob Williams's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Williams doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Stark counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stark lands a nice short elbow.

Williams looking for a kimura from the bottom but Stark passes into side control!
Stark trying to control the action but Williams is working from the bottom.
Stark lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Williams down.
Stark in side control, throwing shots but Williams defends.
Stark throwing strikes but Williams manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stark is trying to control Williams's posture but Williams avoids it.
Williams wants to control but Stark is keeping him busy.
Stark regains half guard.
Stark is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Williams's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Williams's back!
Stark is hanging on to Williams's back as he tries to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A lull in the action here.
Stark lands a shot to the body.


Rob Williams's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Rob Williams's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Tony Stark!
