Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phal Um (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zeke Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phal Um!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Zeke Rage!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rage takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Um lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Phal Um seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Um throws a right and a left that Rage avoids nicely.

Um closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rage can do anything to dispel that myth.
An elbow from Um crashes against the mat.
Rage wants to control but Um postures up.

Rage bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Um misses with a hook.
Nice defenses there by Rage.

Um drives through with a takedown into guard.
Um working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Um has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Um throws a strike but Rage rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Rage is looking to stand up but Um won't let him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rage is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Um is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Um looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rage is one step ahead there.
Um is pulling down on Rage's head. It's preventing any offense from Rage, at least for the moment.

Um wants to sweep here but Rage controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rage stands up and waves to Um to follow him.
Um defending well as Rage loads up on a big left hand.

Um shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Um showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Um thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rage's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phal Um dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Um throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rage avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Um shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rage pinned against the cage. Rage gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rage drops his hands momentarily and Um takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Rage looks to land a right hand but Um moved out of range.
Um dodges the punch combination from Rage.
Um moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Um closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rage to the mat! Rage manages to get full guard.
Um throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Um scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Um trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Rage working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Um.
Um with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rage really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Um. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Um in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Um's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Um loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rage wants to stand up but Um is controlling him.
Um trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Um digs a good hook to Rage's body.

Um shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Um not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Um throwing shots but Rage is blocking nicely.
Rage avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Um.
Um trying to mount his opponent but Rage defends it.
Rage wants to get back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Um prevents Rage from getting back to his feet.
Rage not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Um accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rage avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Rage utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Rage wants to stand but Um is controlling the position.
Um throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rage works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rage leaves Um with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Um dives in and grabs Rage's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rage pushes down on Um's head and hops out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phal Um dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Um wants to clinch up but Rage keeps it at a distance.
Rage uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Um.
Um paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Rage doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Um shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rage manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Rage wants to stand up but Um is controlling him.
Um connects with a couple of short punches.
Um landing with the ground and pound.
Rage is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Um is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Um throws a strike aimed at the side of Rage's head but Rage avoids it well.

Rage is trying to control Um's posture but Um avoids it.
Um is working Rage over with some ground and pound from side control.
Rage is not content to let Um control the position.
Rage being controlled for a moment.
Phal Um overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rage takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Rage is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Um is working Rage over with some ground and pound from side control.
Rage taking a bit of punishment here - Um scoring with strikes.
Um misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Rage tries to improve position but can't.
Um in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Zeke Rage has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Um scores with a couple of short elbows.

And that's the end of the fight!
Phal Um showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Um has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
