The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roughneck shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Merkol sprawls well. Merkol wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Roughneck gets slowly back to his feet.
Roughneck misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Roughneck fails with an attempt to clinch.
Merkol scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Merkol checks a low kick from Roughneck.
Merkol tries to score a power double leg takedown but Roughneck sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Merkol somewhat.
Merkol has closed the distance and engaged Roughneck in a clinch.

Merkol lands a left and a right that send Roughneck crashing to the mat, dazed. Merkol thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
It looks like Jan Roughneck has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Merkol tries a head kick but it misses.

Merkol decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Merkol gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Roughneck seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Merkol shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Roughneck is backing up but Merkol catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Roughneck covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Merkol Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gorro Merkol!
