8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gendun Metohkangmi! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Metohkangmi avoids the body shot from Johnson.
Metohkangmi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Johnson. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Johnson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Metohkangmi thows a left - swing and a miss! Metohkangmi misses with a kick to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Metohkangmi fails to land with a series of punches.
Johnson misses with a looping left.
That's one minute gone in the round. Metohkangmi looks to land a combination but Johnson avoids it well. Johnson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Johnson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Johnson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson prevents Metohkangmi from standing back up.
Ground and pound from Johnson. Johnson thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Metohkangmi to regain full guard. Johnson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Johnson is in close to Metohkangmi's body, working some short punches and elbows. Johnson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Metohkangmi's head. Johnson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Johnson scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Johnson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Metohkangmi trying to control the position here. Johnson lands a couple of elbows. Metohkangmi wants to stand but Johnson is controlling the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Metohkangmi can do anything to dispel that myth. Metohkangmi has momentary wrist control but Johnson slips an elbow through the middle. Metohkangmi scrambles and gets back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson throws a big shot that misses. Johnson looks to score with a jab to the body but Metohkangmi is just out of range. Metohkangmi lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Metohkangmi misses with a few strikes there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Metohkangmi scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
It looks like Ari Johnson has been cut. Metohkangmi misses with a two punch combination.
Metohkangmi throws a solid leg kick but Johnson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Metohkangmi. Johnson misses the jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Gendun Metohkangmi will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Ari Johnson's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Metohkangmi lands a jab. Metohkangmi misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Johnson.
Metohkangmi throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Johnson fails with a takedown attempt. Ari Johnson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's one minute gone in the round. Metohkangmi tries to bum rush Johnson with a series of wild strikes but Johnson uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Metohkangmi misses with a two punch combination.
Johnson tries to clinch up but Metohkangmi circles away and keeps his distance. Metohkangmi jabbing away but nothing is landing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Metohkangmi misses the body punch and Johnson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Johnson wants to clinch up but Metohkangmi keeps it at a distance. Metohkangmi lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Johnson circles away quickly and effectively. Johnson throws a sloppy body shot
and Metohkangmi counters with a beautiful punch that sends Johnson to the canvas! Metohkangmi decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Gendun Metohkangmi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson tries to clinch up but Metohkangmi circles away and keeps his distance. Metohkangmi fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Johnson to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Johnson looks to clinch but Metohkangmi throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Johnson taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
