PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andal Ampatuan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Isamu Takeru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andal Ampatuan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Isamu Takeru!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ampatuan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Takeru tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Ampatuan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Takeru avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ampatuan.
Takeru is looking for a sweep.
Ampatuan moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ampatuan cracks Takeru with a big elbow.

Ampatuan stands up.
Ampatuan on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Takeru moves out of range of the body kick from Ampatuan.
Ampatuan scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Ampatuan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Takeru as he avoids it easily.
Takeru looks for a takedown but Ampatuan sprawls well.
Takeru will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Takeru pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Isamu Takeru seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ampatuan has a takedown stuffed.

Ampatuan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Takeru looks gassed!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ampatuan raining down shots from the mount!
Ampatuan fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Ampatuan landing strikes from the mount and Takeru is in trouble!

Ampatuan jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Takeru manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Takeru is looking to regain half guard here but Ampatuan keeps moving and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ampatuan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Takeru keeps working.
Takeru gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Ampatuan is stalling here. Takeru is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Ampatuan seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Takeru has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Ampatuan is not content to let Takeru control the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ampatuan is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Takeru stands up and beckons Ampatuan to his feet.
Ampatuan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ampatuan dives in and grabs Takeru's left leg, looking for a takedown. Takeru pushes down on Ampatuan's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andal Ampatuan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Takeru throws a body punch but Ampatuan moves out of range.
Takeru looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ampatuan is fending him off so far but Takeru persists. Nope, Ampatuan circles away and we're back to standing.
Takeru shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ampatuan sprawls well. Ampatuan wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Takeru gets slowly back to his feet.
Takeru moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andal Ampatuan dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ampatuan closes the distance and clinches up with Takeru, looking for a takedown. Ampatuan pushes Takeru against the cage but Takeru circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ampatuan tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Andal Ampatuan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Takeru shoots in but no luck this time.
Ampatuan missing with a left hand there. Takeru was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Takeru scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Ampatuan moves out of range as Takeru throws a body kick.
Takeru fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Ampatuan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Takeru was covering up waiting for the punch and Ampatuan finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Takeru can't keep his opponent in guard - Ampatuan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ampatuan frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Ampatuan landing strikes from the mount.
Ampatuan controlling the position easily from mount.
Ampatuan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Takeru is looking to escape.
Ampatuan lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Takeru hang on?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Takeru is just holding on here. Ampatuan manages to take his back.
Ampatuan trying to control momentarily.
Takeru is really stuck here.
Takeru has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Ampatuan lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Takeru hold on?!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Ampatuan's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Takeru tries to escape the position.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Ampatuan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Takeru for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ampatuan keeps control of the position as Takeru tries to break free.
Ampatuan just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Ampatuan looking for the choke but no joy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Ampatuan's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Ampatuan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Takeru's guard.
Takeru is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Takeru not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ampatuan's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Takeru keeping full guard, as Ampatuan tries to pass.
Takeru has his hands on Ampatuan's head, controlling the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ampatuan wants to control from the top but Takeru keeps moving.

Takeru looking to control.
Ampatuan being controlled here momentarily.
Ampatuan trying to control but Takeru is working from the bottom.
Ampatuan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Takeru swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ampatuan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Ampatuan throwing strikes but missing.
Takeru is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ampatuan throws a lazy head kick
and Takeru counters with a head kick.

Ampatuan gets the takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Takeru can't do much from the bottom here.

Ampatuan decides to stand back up. Ampatuan steps back and let's Takeru get back to his feet.
An inside leg kick lands from Takeru.
Ampatuan with a poor takedown

and Takeru moves into the clinch.

Takeru breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Ampatuan counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Ampatuan throwing strikes from guard but Takeru blocks nicely.
Ampatuan controls from within his opponent's guard.
Isamu Takeru has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Takeru is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ampatuan is controlling him.

And that's the end of the fight!
Andal Ampatuan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ampatuan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
