Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Billy Graham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Graham! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Bates! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Bruno Lombardi and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Graham shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Bates shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Graham's guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Bates tries to free his leg and advance position but Graham is retaining full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Graham is on top in guard.
Bates is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Bates bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Graham's guard. Bates preventing the sweep. Graham has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Graham is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Graham with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bates wants to improve his position but instead Graham has moved into half guard.
Graham slows the pace down in half guard. Graham takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Graham is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Bates has managed to free his arm - good work. Bates has one foot on Graham's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Bates looks gassed! Graham with a lazy takedown attempt and Bates counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Bates is trying to control the action in half guard but Graham is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Bates is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Bates works a leg free and moves into half guard. Graham keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Bates is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Graham defends it well. Graham moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Bates tries to free his leg and advance position but Graham is retaining full guard. Bates thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Bates tries to free his leg and advance position but Graham is retaining full guard. Bates stands and throws Graham's legs to the side, diving into side control. Bates stands up and we're back to a striking position. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Graham shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Bates counters by moving into the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Graham. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bates drops down looking for an ankle pick but Graham pulls his leg out and moves away.
Bates gets caught flat footed, as Graham shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Graham postures up in Bates's guard and throws a big left but Bates blocks it. Bates working a defensive guard here.
Bates wants to get back to his feet but Graham is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Graham pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bates is keeping the position for now. Graham stays in close to Bates's body and controls the position. Graham slips nicely into half guard. Bates is trying to get back to full guard. Ground and pound from Graham.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bates is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Graham pulls his head out easily. Bates has hold of Graham's hands but Graham slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Bates trying to control but Graham postures up.

Bates moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Graham trying to control the position from guard on top but Bates is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bates wants to sweep but no luck. Bates wants to improve his position but instead Graham has moved into half guard.
Bates tries to roll over but Graham keeps him under control. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Graham passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bates! Graham tries to control but Bates wriggling away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Matt Bates will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Graham shoots and misses and Bates counters with a nice double leg into guard. Bates would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Bates wants to control from the top but Graham keeps moving. Bates throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Graham works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Bates drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bates jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Graham is looking to sweep but instead, Bates has passed into half guard.
Graham is defending against the submission attempts here by Bates.
Bates wants to lay and pray for a moment but Graham keeps working. Bates is looking to stall here but Graham recovers full guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Bates with a lazy takedown attempt and Graham counters with a lovely straight right hand! Bates fails with the takedown and Bates takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bates closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Graham to the mat! Graham manages to get full guard. Bates passes easily into side control. Nice work. Graham is not content to let Bates control the position. Bates is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Graham is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Bates connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Graham some visible discomfort.
Graham tries to buck Bates off but Bates is having none of it. Bates tries to move into full mount but can't pass Graham's legs. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Graham sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Graham gets full guard. Graham had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Bates is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Graham Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Bates's back instead. A lull in the action here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Graham loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Bates hold on?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Graham lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Bates trying to control but not successfully. Graham scores with punches and elbows. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Graham lands strikes to the head. You can see the frustration on Bates's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Graham tries to roll over but Bates keeps him under control.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Bates feints and as Graham raises his hands in defense, Bates changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Bates thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Bates is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Graham has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Bates is looking to defend but Graham has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Bates! Graham pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Bates taps out and this one is all over!
