Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Dirt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Darrell Thomas! The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dirt lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Thomas circles away quickly and effectively. Dirt looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Thomas is fending him off so far but Dirt persists. Nope, Thomas circles away and we're back to standing. Dirt moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Thomas shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dirt is trying to defend but Thomas finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Dirt wants to control but Thomas is keeping busy and won't allow it. Thomas is controlling the pace.
Thomas is looking to take a break and control but Dirt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Dirt trying to control here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dirt is pressing down on Thomas's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Thomas preventing the sweep. Thomas missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas being controlled here momentarily. Dirt looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Thomas trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Thomas postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Dirt connects with a nice looking jab.
Thomas's corner calls for a 1-2. Thomas obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Peter Dirt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thomas falls off balance throwing a combination
and Dirt counters with a two punch combo. Thomas lands a nice hook to Dirt's body. Dirt takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thomas blocks a leg kick. Dirt lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Thomas backs up against the cage.
Thomas changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dirt looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Thomas scores with a couple of short elbows. Dirt is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Thomas's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Thomas looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Dirt wants to control but Thomas is keeping busy.
Thomas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dirt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Thomas seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Thomas is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dirt is trying to maintain the position but Thomas is very close to passing his half guard. Dirt gets full guard. Thomas looking to pass the guard. Thomas trying to control but Dirt is working from the bottom. Dirt working a defensive guard here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Dirt looks to land a combination. Thomas sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Thomas is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dirt's half guard. Thomas is trying to control. Dirt wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Dirt has his hands clasped together around Thomas's back. He's all about the action. Nice strikes from Thomas there. Dirt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Thomas on the ground. Thomas winds up and cracks Dirt with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Thomas is nestled in close to Dirt, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Thomas is looking to take a break and control but Dirt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Dirt regains full guard. Nicely done. Thomas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Darrell Thomas will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Thomas is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Dirt. Thomas throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Dirt sees it coming and avoids it easily. Thomas falls off balance throwing a combination
and Dirt counters with a stiff right hand. Dirt throws a right and a left that both miss. Thomas misses with a double jab
and Dirt cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Dirt lands with a right hand. Thomas shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dirt is trying to defend but Thomas finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Dirt manages to get to full guard.

Thomas throws a big right hand that misses. Thomas is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Thomas throwing strikes but missing. Dirt is pulling down on Thomas's head to control his posture. Dirt keeping moving, preventing Thomas from controlling successfully.

Thomas has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Dirt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Thomas drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Thomas jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Dirt throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Thomas throws a strike but Dirt rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Dirt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Dirt trying to control but Thomas is working from the bottom.

and Thomas counters with a shoot takedown. Dirt fights it but they end up in guard. Dirt is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Thomas postures up in Dirt's guard and throws a big left but Dirt blocks it. Thomas controls from within his opponent's guard. Thomas preventing the sweep. Thomas trying to control but Dirt is working from the bottom. Thomas scoring with punches to the head and body. Dirt utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Thomas drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Thomas jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Dirt tries to grapple but his opponent circles so Thomas counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Thomas throwing strikes but missing. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Thomas trying to control but Dirt is working from the bottom. Dirt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Darrell Thomas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Thomas looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Dirt wants to get back to full guard. Thomas looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Dirt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Thomas is working away from the top position though. Thomas is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Thomas maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Dirt could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Thomas has cracked it and Dirt is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Thomas!
