PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grayson Halverson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Halverson has chosen Mobb Deep - Shook Ones II as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Grayson Halverson!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, David Schapiro and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Man closes the distance and clinches up with Halverson, looking for a takedown. Man pushes Halverson against the cage but Halverson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Man shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Halverson as he avoids it easily.
Halverson throws a nice looking combination but Man bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Man staying out of range there.
Man really is a fat lump.
Halverson misses with a few strikes there.
Halverson misses with a wild combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A combination from Halverson does no damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Man looks for a takedown but Halverson sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Man. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Man counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Man wants to control from the top but Halverson keeps moving.
Man forces his way into half guard.
Man looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Man takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Man is trying to control. Halverson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Man thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Halverson's head.
Halverson is not content to let Man control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Man content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Man shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Halverson as he avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Halverson misses with a takedown

and Man counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Man trying to control the action but Halverson is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Halverson is trying to stand back up but Man is controlling him
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Man dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Halverson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Man shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Halverson defends it nicely.
Halverson scores with a three punch combo!
Grayson Halverson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Halverson throws a left and a right that both miss

so Man counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Halverson pushes Man off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Man darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Man is looking to advance position but Halverson won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Man is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Halverson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Man.
Man wants to lay and pray for a moment but Halverson keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Halverson tries to kick Man off but Man keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Halverson kicks off Man and gets to his feet.

Halverson gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Man fails to pull guard.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Halverson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Man has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Halverson is pressed up against the cage. Man has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Halverson down to the mat. Halverson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Man. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Halverson throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Mark Man has been cut.
Some wild striking there from Halverson.
Halverson scores with a jab. Man acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grayson Halverson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Mark Man's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Man counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Man.
Halverson keeping moving, preventing Man from controlling successfully.
Halverson wants to get back to his feet but Man is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mark Man overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Man in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Halverson keeping moving, preventing Man from controlling successfully.
Man looking to pass the guard.
Man wants to control from the top but Halverson keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Halverson is wriggling around but Man manages to pass to half guard.

Man is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Halverson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Halverson misses with a two punch combination.
Halverson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Halverson bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Man's head.
Halverson fails to land with a series of punches.
Halverson throws a series of punches but Man moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Man blocks a head kick by Halverson.
A combination from Halverson does no damage.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Halverson!
Halverson throws a right and a left that Man avoids nicely.
Halverson connects with a looping right hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Grayson Halverson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Halverson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
