Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Gale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chance Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chance Powell has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Gale!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chance Powell!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powell on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Gale. Gale obviously looking to wear him down.
Gale swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Powell drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gale looking to control.
Gale keeping moving, preventing Powell from controlling successfully.
Powell throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gale works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Gale pulls Powell in close to prevent any damage.
Powell trying to control the position from guard on top but Gale is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Powell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gale has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Powell has managed to get both his arms back between Gale's legs - danger averted.
Gale is controlling Powell's posture.
Powell trying to control but Gale is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gale fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Gale is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Powell is keeping busy.
Powell has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Gale avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Powell on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Gale tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Powell avoids it.

The fight stays on the outside here - Gale looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Powell fails with an attempt to clinch.
Powell clinches but Gale breaks the clinch
and Gale makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Powell darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Powell looks gassed!
Powell is thwarting Gale's attempts to control the position.
Powell works his way into full mount!
Powell thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Gale is in a horrible position here. Powell smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Gale wants to hold on but Powell pushes him away.

Powell goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Gale turns into him and now he's in Powell's guard.
Powell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gale trying to control but Powell is working from the bottom.
Gale looking to sit in guard and control but Powell gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gale had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Powell defends it easily.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Powell tries for a takedown but Gale circles away easily
and Gale counters with a slapping leg kick.

Gale shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gale was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Powell wants to try and get back to his feet.

Gale looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Powell slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gale is looking for a kimura but Powell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gale to get the leverage.
Powell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gale's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gale's back!
Powell is trying to stick to Gale's back but Gale is turning into Powell. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Powell's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gale.

Powell is adopting a defensive guard.
Powell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gale manages to get himself to full guard.

Powell gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Chris Gale is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Gale counters by moving into the clinch.

Powell thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gale's head.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chris Gale will probably get the nod.

Powell closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gale did well to prevent Powell getting side control.

Horrible takedown by Powell or perhaps it was just good defense by Gale which made him look bad.
Gale tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Powell paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Powell uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gale.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Powell gets the takedown into side control.

Powell tries for a kimura but Gale is defending well.
Powell tries to score with some ground and pound. Gale controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Gale regains half guard, as Powell was trying to land strikes.
Powell wants to stand but Gale has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Powell wants to pass the guard but Gale is defending well.
Gale moves into full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gale is on top in guard.

Gale slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Chance Powell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gale tries to free his leg and advance position but Powell is retaining full guard.

Powell is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Gale frees his head nicely. Oh but Powell has switched to an armbar! Gale is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
