PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cyborg Ruas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cyborg Ruas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Lee!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruas takes a swing at Lee's ribcage but misses.
Ruas swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ruas ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Lee decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
It looks like Lee is going to stand back up.
Lee is thwarting Ruas's attempts to control the position.
Ruas is staying active underneath Lee, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ruas trying to control but Lee postures up.

Lee is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Lee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ruas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lee is trying to control the action in half guard but Ruas is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Lee has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ruas finds it's way round the side to connect with Lee's head.
Donk. Ruas catches Lee right on the button with a cross.
Lee shoots in for a double leg but Ruas sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Ruas counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Cyborg Ruas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ruas throws a series of strikes that have Lee backpedaling.
Ruas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Lee shoots for a double leg takedown but Ruas sprawls well. He's pushed Lee's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ruas tries to bum rush Lee with a series of wild strikes but Lee uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ruas lands a nice hook to Lee's body. Lee takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Ruas pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Ruas throws a right hand that Lee ducks under and follows up with a left that Lee also avoids with ease.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Ruas!
Ruas misses with a few strikes there.
Ruas is looking to wear down Lee with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Ruas fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ruas looks to land a combination but Lee avoids it well.
Ruas scores with the left hand. Lee knows he should have avoided that one.

Ruas throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Ruas!
Lee takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Ruas swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lee stuffs the takedown.
Ruas lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cyborg Ruas dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Lee shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ruas sprawls well. Ruas wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lee gets slowly back to his feet.
Ruas wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Ruas tries to bum rush Lee with a series of wild strikes but Lee uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ruas swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ruas throws a good cross that connects.
Cyborg Ruas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Ruas moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Ruas thuds a left hand into Lee's body.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Lee looks to land a combination but Ruas avoids it well.
Ruas throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ruas lands a jab to Lee's midsection.
Lee closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ruas circles away.
Cyborg Ruas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Lee.
Ruas sizes up Lee with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Ruas throws a right hand that Lee ducks under and follows up with a left that Lee also avoids with ease.
Ruas moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

and Lee counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ruas's guard now.
Ruas bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lee's guard.

Ruas drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ruas jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Ruas is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lee is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ruas lands with a good body shot.
Ruas's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Ruas duly obliges.

so Lee counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ruas not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lee trying to control but Ruas is working from the bottom.

Lee is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Ruas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close second round but Ryan Lee will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Horrible takedown by Lee or perhaps it was just good defense by Ruas which made him look bad.

and Lee counters with a shoot takedown. Ruas fights it but they end up in guard.

Lee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ruas manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Ruas jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Lee manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Lee wants to get back to his feet.

Lee tries to escape but Ruas is in control.
Lee is looking to regain half guard here but Ruas keeps moving and retains side control.

Ruas working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Ruas is trying to get an arm triangle but Lee is defending well.
Lee pushes Ruas away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ruas gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ruas has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Lee is in all sorts of trouble here.
Lee is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Ruas can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lee is looking to escape.

Lee defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ruas.
Cyborg Ruas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lee is looking to improve his position but Ruas isn't that keen on the idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
You get the feeling that Lee really doesn't like being in this position too much.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cyborg Ruas showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ruas has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
