PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ben Dingdown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan has chosen Freestyler as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ben Dingdown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brad Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dingdown is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ryan.
Ben Dingdown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dingdown throws a wild body kick that Ryan sees coming a mile off.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ryan connects with a nice short shot to Dingdown's temple.
Ryan wants to pass to mount but Dingdown is defending the position.
Ryan missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Dingdown is looking to escape.
Dingdown avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ryan.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ryan moves out of range as Dingdown strikes.

Ryan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dingdown pinned against the cage. Dingdown gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dingdown tries to clinch but Ryan is having none of it.

Dingdown throws a nice looking combination but Ryan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ryan takes one on the button.
Dingdown fails to land with a series of punches.
Ryan paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Ryan shoots in for a takedown but Dingdown shows good takedown defense.
A telegraphed right hand from Dingdown misses the target.
Dingdown throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dingdown has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ryan finds it's way round the side to connect with Dingdown's head.
Dingdown misses with a hook. Ryan ducked under it nicely.
Dingdown throws a solid leg kick but Ryan takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Dingdown.
Dingdown tries to clinch but Ryan is having none of it.
Dingdown tries to bum rush Ryan with a series of wild strikes but Ryan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ryan punishes Dingdown's body with a nice straight punch.
Dingdown ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ryan moves away.
Dingdown does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Dingdown takes one to the side of the head.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ryan distracts Dingdown with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Ryan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ryan trying to control the position from guard on top but Dingdown is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ryan pushes down on Dingdown's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Ryan is trying to work for a kimura but Dingdown is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brad Ryan dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Dingdown throws out a loose jab but Ryan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dingdown throws a shot from downtown. Ryan moves away and avoids it.
Ryan shoots in looking for a takedown. Dingdown tries to sprawl out of it but Ryan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dingdown manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Ryan drives through and clinches with Dingdown against the cage.

Dingdown's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dingdown leaves Ryan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Ryan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dingdown won't be happy with that.

Dingdown is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Ryan is controlling him well.
Ryan throws an elbow but Dingdown slips to the side and avoids it well.
The strikes coming from Ryan are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
You can see the frustration on Dingdown's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Dingdown is pushing Ryan's head away, looking to escape. Ryan manages to hold on to the position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ryan tries to move to mount but Dingdown blocks the move with his legs.
Ryan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Dingdown sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Dingdown is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Ryan is controlling him well.
Dingdown knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ryan on the ground.
Ryan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dingdown keeps working.

Ryan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dingdown knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Dingdown goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Ryan shoots in for a takedown but Dingdown shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ryan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ryan prevents Dingdown from getting back to his feet.

Dingdown is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ryan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dingdown sprawls well initially but Ryan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

I've got Ryan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
