The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Highsmith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gold's waist but Gold gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Highsmith off to one side.

Gold fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Highsmith, pushing him back against the cage.

Highsmith decides to pull guard.
Gold throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gold scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Highsmith tries to land a sweep but no joy.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Highsmith is on top in guard.
Highsmith is fighting to break Gold's control of his arms but Gold is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Gold tries to land a sweep but no joy.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Highsmith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Highsmith throws a big right hand that misses.
Highsmith is looking to work some ground and pound but Gold has wrist control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gold can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Highsmith looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Highsmith is keen to just control but Gold is a slippery customer.
Gold tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Gold is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Highsmith wants to work for an arm triangle but Gold is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Gold wants to sweep here but Highsmith controlling him for the moment.

Highsmith drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gold dives on top into guard.
