PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ash Gibbons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sgt Parrotface (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sgt Parrotface was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Ash Gibbons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sgt Parrotface!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gibbons circles away from the clinch attempt.
Parrotface tries to clinch but Gibbons moves out of range.
Parrotface wants to clinch.
Sgt Parrotface seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gibbons fails with the takedown.

Parrotface closes the distance and pushes Gibbons back into the cage.
Gibbons is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Parrotface has eaten all the pies!
Parrotface has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Gibbons avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Gibbons has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Parrotface is trying to keep an underhook but Gibbons manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Parrotface is trying to stand up here but Gibbons is controlling him well.

Gibbons wants to lay and pray for a moment but Parrotface keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Parrotface tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Parrotface tries to clinch there but Gibbons circles away.
Gibbons throws a right hand that Parrotface ducks under and follows up with a left that Parrotface also avoids with ease.

Parrotface decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gibbons is looking to improve his position.
Gibbons gets back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Parrotface got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gibbons has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Parrotface has managed to get both his arms back between Gibbons's legs - danger averted.
Gibbons looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Parrotface puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Gibbons is breathing heavily.
Parrotface thows a huge punch but Gibbons dodges it nicely.

Parrotface wants to take a breather but Gibbons is having none of it.
Parrotface lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Parrotface tries to stand and escape but Gibbons is controlling the position.
Parrotface keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Parrotface trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Gibbons manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Gibbons has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Gibbons will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gibbons is keen to just control but Parrotface is a slippery customer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gibbons stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Parrotface to get to his feet.

A close round but Sgt Parrotface will probably get the nod.
That's time! Gibbons's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Parrotface is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Gibbons.

Parrotface closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Parrotface is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gibbons's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gibbons's back!

Gibbons manages to reverse the position and now he's in Parrotface's guard. Nice work there by Gibbons.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gibbons trying to move into half guard but instead Parrotface has managed to sweep!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gibbons is on top in guard.

Parrotface utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Gibbons pushes down on Parrotface's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Parrotface flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gibbons shoots for a takedown but Parrotface saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ash Gibbons. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Parrotface feints and as Gibbons raises his hands in defense, Parrotface changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Parrotface thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Parrotface wants to control from the top but Gibbons keeps moving.

Gibbons is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Parrotface defends well.

Gibbons is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Parrotface is aware though and is defending well.

Gibbons working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Parrotface doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Parrotface manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Sgt Parrotface will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gibbons is looking to control Parrotface's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gibbons avoid being mounted?
Gibbons is looking for a sweep. Parrotface is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Gibbons wants to get back to full guard but Parrotface has passed into side control.
Parrotface with a couple of short strikes.
Ash Gibbons has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sgt Parrotface comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Parrotface has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
