Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Eugene Kalivas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elmo Lupe! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Eddie Farnsworth and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A punch combination from Kalivas misses. Lupe stuffs the takedown attempt from Kalivas. Kalivas gets slowly back to his feet. Kalivas closes the distance and clinches up with Lupe, looking for a takedown. Kalivas pushes Lupe against the cage but Lupe circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Kalivas fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eugene Kalivas. That's going to take a lot out of him. Lupe throws an overhand right that lands on Kalivas's shoulder, as Kalivas tries to avoid the shot. Lupe missing with a left hand there. Kalivas was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Kalivas looks for a takedown but Lupe sprawls well. Lupe slaps away a takedown attempt from Kalivas, before circling back to the center of the mat. Kalivas lets loose with a powerful body kick. Lupe will feel that in the morning. Kalivas looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Lupe misses the shot to the body. Lupe slaps away a takedown attempt from Kalivas, before circling back to the center of the mat. Jab by Kalivas. Elmo Lupe is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kalivas throws a nice looking combination but Lupe bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Kalivas swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lupe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kalivas moves away. Lupe throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kalivas. Lupe jabbing away but nothing is landing. Kalivas throws a right and a left that Lupe avoids nicely. No luck with that takedown attempt from Kalivas. Lupe misses with a double jab.

Kalivas feints and as Lupe raises his hands in defense, Kalivas changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Kalivas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kalivas stands up from guard. Let's bang! A slow jab from Kalivas misses its intended target. Kalivas shoots in but Lupe avoids the takedown attempt easily. Kalivas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lupe swats him away and circles back towards the center. Lupe throws a jab but it's blocked by Kalivas. Kalivas avoids the body shot from Lupe.

Kalivas takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Kalivas is breathing heavily. Kalivas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kalivas will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Lupe stuffs the takedown. Kalivas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lupe. Kalivas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lupe can do anything to dispel that myth. Kalivas winds up and cracks Lupe with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Kalivas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kalivas missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Kalivas is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lupe is just riding it out for now. Kalivas eventually gives up the hold.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lupe looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kalivas tries to stand and escape but Lupe is controlling the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Eugene Kalivas dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Lupe takes a swing at Kalivas's ribcage but misses. Kalivas is trying hard to land a takedown here. Lupe sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Lupe swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Kalivas pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Lupe misses with a wild body shot. A slow jab from Lupe misses its intended target. The fight stays on the outside here - Kalivas looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Lupe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lupe wants it to stay on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eugene Kalivas. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kalivas throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Lupe counters with a left to the body. Lupe connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kalivas clinches but Lupe breaks the clinch and Lupe scores with a counter punch that sends Kalivas to the canvas! Lupe smells blood - he's punishing Kalivas with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Kalivas has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Elmo Lupe!
