PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cody Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Leroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bruce Leroy!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leroy blocks a head kick by Banks.
Banks tries to clinch but Leroy moves out of range.
Banks tries to clinch there but Leroy circles away.
Leroy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Banks has closed the distance and engaged Leroy in a clinch.
Banks tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Banks tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Banks throws a knee to the head but misses.
Banks with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Banks throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Banks tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Leroy tries a knee to the head but Banks blocks it.
Leroy has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Banks avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Leroy lands a body punch.

Banks using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Leroy has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Leroy lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Cody Banks has been cut.
Banks is breathing heavily.
Banks prevents a takedown attempt there.
Leroy blocks an elbow strike.
Banks with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Leroy digs a right hand into Banks's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Banks's gas tank.
Leroy comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Leroy lands a nice knee to the body.

Leroy has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Banks regains guard immediately.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Leroy is looking to work some ground and pound but Banks has wrist control.

Banks knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Leroy on the ground.
Leroy is working Banks over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Leroy postures up in Banks's guard and throws a big left but Banks blocks it.

Leroy decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Banks, up you get!
Banks tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Leroy lands with a kick to the ribs.
Banks tries to close the distance and clinch but Leroy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Banks wants to clinch up but Leroy keeps it at a distance.

Banks closes the distance but Leroy moves to the side
and Leroy counters with a leg kick.

Leroy jumps guard.
Banks wants to control from the top but Leroy keeps moving.
Banks has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Banks is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Leroy is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Banks is really struggling to control Leroy but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Leroy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Banks won't allow Leroy to get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Banks tries to free his leg and advance position but Leroy is retaining full guard.
Banks looking to sit in guard and control but Leroy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Leroy postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Leroy counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Banks wants to clinch

Leroy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Banks's head.
Leroy thows a huge punch but Banks dodges it nicely.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Banks looks to clinch
and Leroy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Banks takes the fight into the clinch.

Leroy lands an elbow that stopped Banks in his tracks for a moment.
Banks could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Banks looking to throw knees to the head but Leroy is blocking nicely.

Leroy turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Leroy manages to end up in side control.
Banks is trying to get back to half guard.
Leroy throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Leroy scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Banks to see if he's OK.

Leroy decides to stand back up.

Banks fails with an attempt to clinch.
Banks tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Leroy counters with a low kick, right behind Banks 's knee.

so Leroy counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Banks is adopting a defensive guard.
Leroy throws a strike but Banks rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Leroy wants to stand up but Banks is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Leroy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Banks throws a knee to the head but misses.
Leroy digs a right hand underneath Banks's ribcage. Banks let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Leroy lands a good knee to the midsection. Banks won't want to take too many of those.

Leroy has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Banks uses from the top position.

Leroy has his feet on Banks's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Banks tries a knee to the head but Leroy blocks it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Leroy is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Banks can't fight it off and eventually Leroy manages to take the fight to the floor. Banks looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Banks is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Leroy with a flurry of punches that miss.
Leroy is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Banks working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Leroy.
Leroy is fighting to break Banks's control of his arms but Banks is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Leroy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Leroy throws a strike but Banks rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Banks controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Banks prevents Leroy from getting back to his feet.

Banks is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Leroy keeping moving, preventing Banks from controlling successfully.

Leroy has his feet on Banks's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Bruce Leroy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Leroy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
