PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lincoln Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Whitley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Whitley has chosen Pain Killer as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lincoln Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Whitley!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Whitley closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hawk to the mat! Hawk manages to get full guard.
Hawk throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Hawk wants to sweep here but Whitley controlling him for the moment.
Hawk wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Hawk is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Whitley preventing the sweep.
Hawk is adopting a defensive guard.
Hawk looking to hit a scissor sweep but Whitley is one step ahead there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Hawk rushes Whitley and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Whitley keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hawk's efforts to push away.
Whitley displaying some good clinch control by pressing Hawk up against the cage.
Hawk wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Whitley has him pressed against the cage.
Whitley looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Whitley breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Whitley gets a takedown into half guard.
Whitley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hawk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hawk won't allow Whitley to pass to mount.
Whitley keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Hawk wants to improve his position but Whitley is controlling well.

Whitley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hawk keeps working.
Whitley prevents Hawk from improving his position.
Hawk gets full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hawk wants to sweep but no luck.
Hawk is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whitley stays in close to Hawk's body and controls the position.
Whitley must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hawk not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hawk has control of Whitley's left arm, preventing Whitley from doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Whitley dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A left lands for Hawk.
Hawk lands a jab to the nose.
Hawk tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Whitley paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Whitley pushes Hawk up against the cage in a clinch.
Hawk prevents Whitley from breaking the clinch.
Hawk looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Whitley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd cheers as Hawk lands an impressive looking overhand right. Whitley doesn't seem phased though.
Hawk catches Whitley with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Whitley shoots in looking for a takedown. Hawk tries to sprawl out of it but Whitley keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hawk manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hawk displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Whitley.
Hawk scores with a jab. Whitley acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hawk lands with a straight right. Whitley didn't see that one coming.
Hawk missing with a left hand there. Whitley was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Whitley tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hawk sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Whitley somewhat.
Lincoln Hawk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Whitley.
Hawk misses with an uppercut. Whitley saw that one coming.

Hawk lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Nice body punch from Hawk.
Hawk will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hawk lands a jab.

Whitley scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Whitley is breathing heavily.
Hawk manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Hawk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hawk tries to roll over but Whitley keeps him under control.
Hawk slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Whitley trying to control but Hawk is working from the bottom.

Hawk wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Hawk lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Whitley!
Whitley avoids a series of strikes thrown by Hawk.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hawk landing strikes, looking to finish!

Hawk trying to control but he's not successful this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hawk takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Whitley tries to lock up and control but Hawk gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lincoln Hawk dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Hawk misses with a series of wild punches.
Whitley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hawk's waist but Hawk gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Whitley off to one side.
Hawk wants to clinch.
Lincoln Hawk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hawk connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Whitley's hands.
Hawk is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Whitley.
Hawk ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Hawk throws a body punch but Whitley moves out of range.

Whitley working hard to break the clinch.
Hawk wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hawk tries to break the clinch but Whitley is controlling the position.

Whitley has had enough of the clinch but Hawk keeps him there for the moment.

Hawk is trying to maintain a safe position but Whitley gets an underhook and turns Hawk into the cage.

Hawk throws the left hand but Whitley avoids the punch easily.

Hawk clinches up with Whitley and pushes him back against the cage.
Whitley is trying to maintain a safe position but Hawk gets an underhook and turns Whitley into the cage.
Hawk is trying to break the clinch but Whitley has him pressed against the cage.
Whitley utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Hawk tries to circle away but Whitley has him pinned against the cage.
Hawk lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Whitley.
Whitley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hawk managing to block the knees to the body from Whitley.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Whitley wants to get back to striking at distance but Hawk won't allow it.
Hawk can't break the clinch.
Whitley prevents Hawk from breaking the clinch.

Hawk is trying to break free.
Hawk will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Whitley up against the cage.
Whitley is looking to break free of the clinch but Hawk has double underhooks.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Hawk.
Whitley is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Hawk has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Whitley is trying to keep an underhook but Hawk manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Hawk throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Whitley trying to hold on to Hawk's head to control him but Hawk postures up.
Hawk throwing shots but Whitley is blocking nicely.

Hawk seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Whitley is defending against the submission attempts here by Hawk.

Hawk is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whitley is just riding it out for now. Hawk eventually gives up the hold.
Hawk is pressing down on Whitley's thigh, looking to free his foot. Whitley is holding on for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Whitley can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hawk seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Whitley does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hawk wants to stand but Whitley has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Whitley is refusing to be controlled, as Hawk sits in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lincoln Hawk showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hawk has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
