Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paulo Fontana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hajime Saito!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Saito with that takedown attempt.
Fontana moves in looking to clinch but Saito pushes him off.
Fontana pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hajime Saito seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A big right from Saito misses.
Saito tries to clinch but Fontana is having none of it.
Fontana shoots for a takedown but Saito saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Fontana.
Fontana looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.


It looks like Paulo Fontana has been cut.

Fontana closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Fontana lands in his opponent's guard.
Saito is trying to keep Fontana in close.
Saito is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fontana throws a big right hand that misses.
Fontana controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Saito looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Fontana wants to pass the guard but Saito is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fontana trying to control the position from guard on top but Saito is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fontana is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Fontana trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Saito manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Saito pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fontana is keeping the position for now.
Fontana controls Saito momentarily but Saito frees himself.
Saito chips away with some ground and pound.

Fontana working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Saito doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Fontana is tightening it up a little... Saito has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Saito reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Saito taps out! nice BJJ there by Fontana!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Paulo Fontana!
