PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sid Vicious (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Alba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vicious comes to the cage accompanied by My way. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sid Vicious!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Joseph Alba!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alba gets caught flat footed, as Vicious shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Vicious preventing the sweep.
Alba is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vicious is controlling him.

Vicious is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Alba can do anything to dispel that myth.
Vicious won't allow Alba to get back to his feet.

Vicious has gone for a leg lock! Alba slips out almost immediately though and dives into Vicious's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alba trying to control the position from guard on top but Vicious is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alba controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Alba loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Alba throws a strike but Vicious rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Alba wants to get back to his feet but Vicious is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Vicious drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Alba manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Vicious has Alba in his guard.
Alba throws and elbow that misses. Vicious uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Alba's guard. Nice move by Vicious!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Alba holds on and takes a little breather.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alba keeping full guard, as Vicious tries to pass.
Vicious won't allow Alba to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Alba controls Vicious momentarily but Vicious frees himself.
Alba wants to stand up but Vicious is controlling him.
Alba is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Alba is keen to just control but Vicious is a slippery customer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alba might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Vicious kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Alba throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Joseph Alba will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Alba misses with a takedown attempt

and Vicious counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Alba is trying to control the position but Vicious postures up.
Alba is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Despite being in the dominant position, Joseph Alba just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alba closes the distance looking to clinch

and Vicious counters with a shoot takedown. Alba fights it but they end up in guard.

Vicious has gone for a leg lock! Alba slips out almost immediately though and dives into Vicious's guard.

Alba postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Alba throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Vicious works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Vicious utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Alba loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Alba must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Alba trying to move into half guard but instead Vicious has managed to sweep!
Alba looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Alba wants to stand but Vicious is controlling the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Alba doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Vicious counters with a single leg into guard. Alba didn't expect that.

Alba is wriggling around but Vicious manages to pass to half guard.
Alba is breathing heavily.

Vicious is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Alba defends it well.
Alba is looking to get back to full guard here but Vicious has managed to pass to side control instead.
Alba is in all sorts of trouble here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alba holds of for dear life.
Vicious prevents Alba from getting the reversal.
Alba is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Alba slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Vicious is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Vicious stops Alba from getting back to his feet.
Alba has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vicious is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sid Vicious dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Vicious doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Alba counters with a shoot takedown. Vicious fights it but they end up in guard.
Alba working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Vicious is trying to keep Alba in close.
Alba stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vicious swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Alba throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Vicious keeping moving, preventing Alba from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alba tries to free his leg and advance position but Vicious is retaining full guard.
Alba wants to control from the top but Vicious keeps moving.

Vicious working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alba doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alba manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Alba clinches up with Vicious and pushes him back against the cage.
Alba comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Vicious goes for a takedown in the clinch but Alba prevents it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Alba tries a knee to the head but Vicious blocks it.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Alba.
Alba misses with a knee strike.
Alba lands a good knee to the midsection. Vicious won't want to take too many of those.
Alba creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Vicious's defenses.
Alba unloads a knee to the mid-section. Vicious lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Alba slowing the pace effectively.
Alba continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alba is pressed up against the cage. Vicious has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Alba down to the mat. Alba avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sid Vicious. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Vicious tries to keep at a distance but Alba has taken the fight into the clinch.
Alba is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Vicious avoids a wild elbow strike from Alba.
Alba with a knee to the head.
Vicious is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Alba pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Alba tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Alba throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vicious tries for a takedown. No joy.
Vicious blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Alba misses with an elbow strike.
Alba slows down the pace here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joseph Alba comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Alba has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
