Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chris Gilstrap! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jushin Lyger! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lyger slips under a jab. Lyger throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Lyger blocks a jab. Nice sprawl there from Gilstrap as Lyger shoots in. Lyger steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gilstrap. Gilstrap lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
It looks like Jushin Lyger has been cut. Lyger changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gilstrap tries to avoid it but Lyger manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gilstrap to the ground. Gilstrap escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Gilstrap misses with an uppercut. Lyger saw that one coming. Lyger blocks a jab. Lyger shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Chris Gilstrap has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jushin Lyger. A combination from Lyger does no damage. Nice uppercut there from Gilstrap. Lyger displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gilstrap throws out the jab. Lyger tries to close the distance and clinch but Gilstrap swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Gilstrap gets caught flat footed, as Lyger shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Gilstrap is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Gilstrap wants to get back to his feet but Lyger passes into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lyger tries to pass to full mount but Gilstrap defends it. Lyger wants to control but Gilstrap is keeping him busy.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Gilstrap just misses with a punch to the body.
Gilstrap misses with an uppercut. Lyger saw that one coming. Gilstrap bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Gilstrap avoids the head kick by Lyger.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Gilstrap misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lyger.

Gilstrap throws a jab when Lyger was well out of range. Gilstrap throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Lyger pushes Gilstrap up against the cage in a clinch. Lyger wants to break free but Gilstrap has control.

Gilstrap gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lyger to score an easy takedown into full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lyger slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Lyger tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Lyger has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lyger shoots in and bounces Gilstrap off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Gilstrap wants to stand and escape but Lyger is having none of it. Lyger wants to control from the top but Gilstrap keeps moving. Gilstrap wants to stand but Lyger is controlling the position. Gilstrap is breathing heavily. Lyger throwing strikes from guard but Gilstrap blocks nicely. Gilstrap wants to stand up but Lyger is controlling him. Lyger stands and steps away. Gilstrap gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gilstrap throws a body punch but Lyger moves out of range. Gilstrap wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Lyger shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gilstrap sprawls well. Gilstrap wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lyger gets slowly back to his feet. Lyger looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Gilstrap is looking to stand up but Lyger isn't so interested in that idea. Lyger is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Lyger trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Lyger stops Gilstrap from standing up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gilstrap on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gilstrap tries to get out of the position. Lyger trying to control the action but Gilstrap is working from the bottom. Lyger prevents Gilstrap from standing back up.
Gilstrap blocking the ground and pound attempt from Lyger. Gilstrap is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Lyger scores with a couple of nice shots. Gilstrap is not content to let Lyger control the position. Gilstrap looks like he's trying to stand up.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Lyger looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gilstrap! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gilstrap is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Lyger is landing with some decent strikes but Gilstrap is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Lyger looking to finish Gilstrap with some ground and pound. This is bad for Gilstrap! BOOM! Lyger connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Lyger has control of Gilstrap's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gilstrap regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Lyger wants to take his opponent's back but Gilstrap doesn't allow it. Lyger in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Lyger lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Gilstrap wants to try and get back to his feet. Gilstrap defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Lyger. Gilstrap squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Gilstrap tries to buck Lyger off but Lyger takes his back! What can Gilstrap do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Lyger wants to control but Gilstrap is keeping busy. Gilstrap is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Gilstrap is trying to stand back up. Lyger lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Lyger has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Lyger connects with a big shot to the side of Gilstrap's head.

I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Lyger shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Lyger is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gilstrap doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lyger. Lyger works his foot free and advances to mount. Lyger is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gilstrap can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Gilstrap is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Lyger looking to control but Gilstrap is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Lyger lands a big elbow. Gilstrap is in a horrible position here. Lyger smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
