Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pelle Paniikki! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Vladimir Solovyev! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paniikki misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Solovyev throws a right and a left that both miss. Paniikki keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Nice defenses there by Paniikki. Solovyev keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Paniikki darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Paniikki is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Paniikki seems to be working for a kimura but Solovyev defends the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Solovyev is looking to escape. Paniikki is looking for a kimura here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Paniikki is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Solovyev doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Paniikki. Paniikki is looking for a kimura but Solovyev is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Paniikki to get the leverage.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Solovyev just misses with a punch to the body.
Paniikki shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Solovyev but Solovyev pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pelle Paniikki. That's going to take a lot out of him. Solovyev lands with a straight right. Paniikki didn't see that one coming. Solovyev drops Paniikki with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Paniikki looks back up at him and smiles so Solovyev waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Paniikki is rocked!
It looks like Pelle Paniikki has been cut. Solovyev walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Paniikki drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Solovyev swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Paniikki's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Vladimir Solovyev! Vladimir Solovyev retains his featherweight title!
