The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Heartman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Heartman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! You can see the frustration on Rua's face as Heartman controls the position. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Heartman in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Rua struggling a bit here.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Excellent takedown into side control there by Heartman. Heartman has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Rua is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Heartman yanks on the arm and Rua is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Heartman.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Andre Heartman!
