Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luiz Jose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Martinez!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A clash of legs there as Jose blocks the low kick.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martinez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Jose is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Martinez is surviving well by controlling Jose's body position as best he can.

Jose has control of Martinez's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Martinez regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Martinez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Jose got a little sloppy there for a moment and Martinez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jose has managed to get both his arms back between Martinez's legs - danger averted.

Jose drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Martinez dives on top into guard.

Martinez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Jose closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
You can see the frustration on Martinez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That was a close round but I would say that Luiz Jose will probably get the nod.

Martinez fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Jose tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jose has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jose wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Martinez, who protects the arm well.

Jose drops back, looking for a kneebar! Martinez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Martinez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Martinez!
Luiz Jose overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jose jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Martinez is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Martinez and Jose has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Jose looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jose is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Martinez is just riding it out for now. Jose eventually gives up the hold.

Martinez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Martinez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Luiz Jose is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jose wants to sweep here but Martinez controlling him for the moment.

Jose has his foot on Martinez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Martinez works his way back into a safe position though.

Jose working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Martinez has passed into half guard!
Martinez is keen to just control but Jose is a slippery customer.

Jose is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Martinez pulls his head out easily.
Martinez wants to stand up but Jose is controlling the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Luiz Jose.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jose, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
