PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jens Pulver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Hamilton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hamilton has chosen OTC- why can't i as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jens Pulver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rob Hamilton!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hamilton dives in and grabs Pulver's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pulver pushes down on Hamilton's head and hops out.
Pulver thows a body shot but no joy.
Pulver tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hamilton paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Pulver keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hamilton avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hamilton lands with a slapping head kick.
Hamilton misses with a two punch combination.
Pulver misses with a double jab

and Hamilton counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Pulver wants to get back to his feet but Hamilton is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hamilton controls from within his opponent's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pulver can't keep his opponent in guard - Hamilton advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Pulver tries to get to full guard but Hamilton has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pulver is looking to escape.

Pulver might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Pulver tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Hamilton has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hamilton looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pulver is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hamilton landing strikes, looking to finish!
Hamilton lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Pulver throwing hammer fists to the chest of Hamilton. What's that going to do exactly?
Pulver is breathing heavily.

Hamilton takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Pulver is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hamilton controlling from the full mount.
Pulver keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hamilton lands a big shot there that rocks Pulver but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Hamilton content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Hamilton dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hamilton fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Hamilton gets caught flat footed, as Pulver shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Hamilton lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pulver!

Hamilton prevents Pulver from getting the reversal.
Hamilton takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Despite being in the dominant position, Rob Hamilton just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hamilton bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hamilton fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Hamilton tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pulver swivels and escapes.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hamilton bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Pulver's head backwards.
Jens Pulver is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hamilton misses with a few strikes there.
Hamilton lands a front kick.

Hamilton closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Pulver did well to prevent Hamilton getting side control.

Pulver is looking to improve his position.
Hamilton passes the guard and advances to mount!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hamilton swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
