Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gray Pleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Starks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gray Pleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Starks!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pleman closes the distance and clinches up with Starks, looking for a takedown. Pleman pushes Starks against the cage but Starks circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Starks shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pleman is trying to defend but Starks finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Starks stalling.

Pleman looking for a kimura from the bottom but Starks passes into side control!
Pleman gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pleman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Starks is working away from the top position though.
Pleman is staying active underneath Starks, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Starks stopping the sweep attempt from Pleman.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pleman takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Starks scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Starks tries to move to mount but Pleman blocks the move with his legs.
Pleman wants to control but Starks postures up.
Starks is looking to take a break and control but Pleman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Pleman's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Starks goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Pleman rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Starks's guard! Nice work there by Pleman!
Starks is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Starks tries to clinch but Pleman moves out of range.
Pleman shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Starks counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Starks really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pleman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pleman wants to get back to full guard.
Starks missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Pleman moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Pleman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Starks prevents Pleman from getting back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Starks counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pleman won't be happy with that.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Starks shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Pleman manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Starks decides to stand up, so the ref orders Pleman to his feet.

Starks shoots in but no luck this time.
Pleman has a takedown stuffed.

and Starks counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Starks looking to sit in guard and control but Pleman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Pleman prevents Starks from getting back to his feet.

Pleman slips nicely into half guard.
Starks keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Starks avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pleman.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Starks feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Justin Starks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Pleman is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Pleman lands a left hand.


It looks like Justin Starks has been cut.
Starks is trying to break the clinch but Pleman has him pressed against the cage.
Pleman looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Starks tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pleman smiles and moves away.

Pleman moves into the clinch successfully.
Starks tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Pleman just stands there and leans against the cage.
Pleman will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Starks up against the cage.

Gray Pleman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Justin Starks.

Pleman breaks the clinch.
Pleman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Starks paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Starks goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Starks swats away the attempt to clinch by Pleman.
Pleman has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Starks.
Starks looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Starks is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Pleman off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pleman somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pleman trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Pleman misses with punches from the back.

Pleman looking for the choke but no joy.
Pleman has the hooks in. Starks is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Gray Pleman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Justin Starks is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Starks is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

I would just about give that final round to Justin Starks.
I've got Starks winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
