Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Terry Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Urijah Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Terry Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Urijah Cote!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Cote.

Jones gets a takedown into half guard.
Jones frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jones cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Jones in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Jones trying to control but Cote is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cote is in all sorts of trouble here.

Jones wants to control the pace but Cote is squirming around nicely.
Cote really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Jones moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Cote has worked his arm free - good work by Cote!
Jones grinds an elbow into Cote's temple.
Cote manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cote is thwarting Jones's attempts to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones has hold of Cote's hands but Cote slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cote looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Jones on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jones tries to get out of the position.
Cote seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jones does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cote looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jones with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Jones is not content to let Cote control the position.

Cote is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jones doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cote.

Jones tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Cote is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Cote eventually gives up the hold.
Jones moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Jones is trying to keep Cote in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Cote from controlling successfully.
Cote trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jones is trying to keep Cote in close.
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cote on the ground.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cote throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cote scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Cote looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jones lets loose with a powerful body kick. Cote will feel that in the morning.
Cote looks gassed!

Jones instigates a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terry Jones dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Cote just misses with a punch to the body.
Cote takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Jones connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Cote throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Jones instigates a clinch.

Jones wants the takedown. Cote is fighting it off but Jones persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Cote's guard against the cage.
Jones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cote keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass.
Jones wants to control from the top but Cote keeps moving.
Jones slips nicely into half guard.

Cote is holding on to half guard well.
Cote wants to control but Jones is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Cote pushes Jones off looking to stand but Jones dives back in and keeps control.
Jones is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Jones is stalling here. Cote is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Jones seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Cote has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Cote wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cote wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.
Cote creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jones sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Jones darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones is looking to take a break and control but Cote is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cote is pressing down on Jones's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Cote not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cote keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cote is keeping the position for now.
Cote tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Cote seems keen to control Jones's posture.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jones gets to his feet - Cote follows without any prompting.
Cote closes the distance looking to clinch

and Jones counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Cote!
Cote is controlling an arm, preventing Jones from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Jones avoids the attempt from Cote to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terry Jones dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Cote throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range.

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Cote jumps guard but Jones stands there with Cote around his waist. Cote gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Cote lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cote slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jones struggling a bit here.

Cote decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Cote walks into a jab.
Cote avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jones showed some decent athleticism there.
Jones throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Cote moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Cote manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Jones working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cote.
Cote makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Cote postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Cote works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Terry Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cote decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Cote misses with a double jab.
Cote tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.
Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Jones forces Cote back against the cage and clinches.
A right hook to the body lands for Cote.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Jones.
Cote stops a takedown attempt from Jones.
Cote wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jones has him pressed against the cage.
Cote is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jones pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Cote pulls Jones into guard.

Cote pushes Jones off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Cote.
Cote throws a lazy head kick

and Jones counters with a takedown into side control.
Cote is looking for a sweep.
Cote sneaks back into half guard.
Cote wants to get back to full guard.
Cote has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though.
Urijah Cote has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Terry Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Cote tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Terry Jones.
Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
