Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Leigh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flare comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Also Sprach Zarathustra kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bryan Leigh! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rick Flare! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick misses from Leigh. Flare shoots in and drives through. Leigh sprawls well. Leigh throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Leigh displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Flare throws out the jab. Horrible takedown by Flare or perhaps it was just good defense by Leigh which made him look bad. Leigh stuffs the takedown. Bryan Leigh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Flare. Flare missing with a left hand there. Leigh was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Rick Flare seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Flare decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Flare is looking to advance position but Leigh won't allow it. Leigh keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Leigh has one foot on Flare's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flare throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Flare takes a kick to the body and keeps moving. Leigh moves away from the strike by Flare. Leigh lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Flare looks gassed! Flare scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Leigh works his way to full guard. Good work. Leigh looking for a sweep. Not yet Leigh, not yet. Flare drops back, looking for a kneebar! Leigh looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Leigh looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Leigh! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! You can see the frustration on Flare's face as Leigh controls the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Leigh gets to mount! Flare was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Flare really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Leigh controlling his opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Flare is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Leigh controlling his opponent. Flare tries to get back to half guard but can't. Leigh trying to control but Flare is having none of it. Flare sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Leigh takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Flare tries to get to full guard but Leigh has control of the leg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Flare keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Leigh trying to control from half guard but Flare is working away. Flare gets full guard. Leigh wanted to stand there but Flare had control of the position. Leigh trying to control but Flare is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bryan Leigh dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Flare closes the distance and clinches up with Leigh, looking for a takedown. Flare pushes Leigh against the cage but Leigh circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. The fight stays on the outside here - Leigh looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Leigh throws a nice outside leg kick. Flare thows a body shot but no joy. Leigh goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Flare fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Leigh avoids it really well and circles away. Leigh throws a head kick that misses.

Leigh scores with a crisp jab that stopped Flare in his tracks. A chopping leg kick lands by Leigh. Flare has a takedown stuffed. Bryan Leigh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Flare. A nice inside leg kick there by Leigh. That's going to slow Flare down. Bryan Leigh is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Leigh fails in his attempt to clinch. Flare throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Leigh's waist but Leigh gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Flare off to one side. Flare is breathing heavily. Leigh bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Leigh misses with a head kick.

Leigh lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Flare has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Leigh finds it's way round the side to connect with Flare's head. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Leigh is looking to clinch but Flare is avoiding it.
Good leg kick by Leigh there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Leigh feints and then cracks Flare's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Flare down. Flare walks forward, straight into a front kick from Leigh.

Leigh tries to clinch up. Leigh tries to clinch but Flare moves out of range. Flare throws a series of punches but Leigh avoids them all with ease. Leigh takes one to the side of the head.
Flare closes the distance and clinches up with Leigh, looking for a takedown. Flare pushes Leigh against the cage but Leigh circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Leigh lands a nice looking body shot.
Flare walks forward, straight into a front kick from Leigh. Flare keeps the fight on the outside. Flare's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Leigh connects with a solid leg kick. Leigh feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Flare's calf. Leigh delivers a nice body kick. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Flare crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Leigh - the referee stops the clock and Flare gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Leigh. Flare manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. This has been an exciting period of action! Leigh gets in close and instigates a clinch. Leigh effectively controlling the action here. Flare managing to block the knees to the body from Leigh.
Flare is trying to break free. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Flare tries to pull guard but Leigh won't allow it.
Leigh is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flare keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Leigh. Flare shoots in for a takedown but Leigh shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Leigh rushes Flare and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Flare fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Flare has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Leigh. Flare dodges an elbow strike from Leigh.
Leigh can't get the takedown.
Leigh is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Flare is defending well for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Leigh tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Flare avoids it. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Flare as Leigh tries to tie him up. Leigh prevents Flare from breaking the clinch. Flare wants a takedown but no success here.

Leigh pushes Flare up against the cage in a clinch. Leigh connects with a nasty looking knee right to Flare's face.
A battle for position here, against the cage. Leigh is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Flare can do to turn this around? A knee to the head by Leigh.

Leigh is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Flare is keeping busy. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Leigh takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Flare is pressed up against the cage. Leigh has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Flare down to the mat. Flare avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Leigh misses with a head kick.
Leigh moves out of range as Flare strikes. A big left from Flare misses. Flare fails with a takedown attempt. Leigh misses with an uppercut. Flare saw that one coming.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Leigh takes one on the button. Leigh bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Flare walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Flare will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Leigh throws a push kick but Flare slaps the foot to one side. Flare shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Leigh as he jumps to the side. Leigh clinches up against the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's one minute gone in the round. Flare is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Leigh is aware though and is defending well. Leigh passes Flare's left leg - he's now in half guard. Leigh is looking to advance position but Flare won't allow it. Flare tries to roll over but Leigh keeps him under control. Leigh decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Flare takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
That's two minutes gone in the round. A slapping body kick lands there for Leigh. Leigh has taken the fight to the clinch.
Leigh stalling in the clinch but Flare improves position. Flare has Leigh pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Flare pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Leigh tumbling to the mat - Flare dives into Leigh's guard. Leigh is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Flare is controlling him. Leigh utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Leigh looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Flare postures up in Leigh's guard and throws a big left but Leigh blocks it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Leigh lands a front kick. Flare shoots in looking for a takedown. Leigh tries to sprawl out of it but Flare keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Leigh manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Leigh lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Leigh tests Flare's chin there with a solid looking shot. Leigh swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Flare. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flare feints and as Leigh raises his hands in defense, Flare changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Flare with a flurry of punches that miss. Flare chips away with some ground and pound. Flare is wobbling all over the place through exhaustion. Will he make it to the final bell?
That's one minute gone in the round. Flare throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Leigh works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Flare is looking to work some ground and pound but Leigh has wrist control. Leigh controlling the position. Flare stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Leigh swivels though and keeps the full guard. Flare postures up.
Leigh pulls Flare in to control the position. Flare wants to pass the guard but Leigh is keeping the position. Flare drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Leigh dives on top into guard. Leigh avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Flare looking to hit a scissor sweep but Leigh is one step ahead there. Leigh not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Leigh would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Flare is working an open guard so Leigh takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Rick Flare has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Leigh ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Leigh wants to clinch up but Flare keeps it at a distance. Flare fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Flare changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Leigh tries to avoid it but Flare manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Leigh to the ground. Leigh escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Bryan Leigh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Flare. Flare tries for a takedown but Leigh sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. The crowd cheers as Leigh lands an impressive looking overhand right. Flare doesn't seem phased though. Leigh tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Flare paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Flare tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Leigh lets loose with a powerful body kick. Flare will feel that in the morning. Leigh scores with a nice head shot. Leigh works the jab nicely. Flare on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Leigh ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Flare moves away. Leigh lands a front kick. Leigh lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Bryan Leigh is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Leigh throws a nice outside leg kick. Leigh pushes Flare away with a front kick.
And that's the end of the fight! Bryan Leigh showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Leigh, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
