PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yamapi Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Okada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chan's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Ikenai Tayou. Yamapi Chan has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yamapi Chan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Okada!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Sano and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Chan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Okada but Okada pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Okada misses with a double jab.
Chan throws a right and a left that both miss.
Okada throws a right and a left that Chan avoids nicely.
Chan throws a right and a left that both miss.
Okada slips a jab and a cross from Chan.
Okada takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Okada tries for a takedown but Chan sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Chan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A slapping body kick lands there for Chan.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Chan - that will leave a mark!
Okada tries to clinch but Chan is having none of it.

Okada throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Chan was covering up waiting for the punch and Okada finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Okada stands and throws Chan's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Chan prevents Okada from moving into mount.
Chan is looking to regain half guard here but Okada keeps moving and retains side control.
Okada tries to stand but Chan is controlling his head.
Chan sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Okada not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Okada is pressing down on Chan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Chan is holding on for now.

Chan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Chan tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chan throws a series of punches but Okada avoids them all with ease.
Chan fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Okada on the side of the head.

and Okada counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Chan!
Okada thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Chan wants to hold on but Okada pushes him away.

Okada is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Chan misses with a takedown attempt

and Okada decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Chan's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yamapi Chan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chan is breathing heavily.

Chan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Okada can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Chan keeping moving, preventing Okada from controlling successfully.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Okada pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chan is keeping the position for now.
Okada wants to control from the top but Chan keeps moving.
Okada must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Chan has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Okada should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Chan has tightened it up now! Okada should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Yamapi Chan!
