Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bob Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Hammi! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Johnson shoots in but no luck this time. Hammi misses with a jab, cross combination.
Johnson moves away from the strike by Hammi. Hammi misses with an uppercut. Johnson saw that one coming. Hammi throws the left hand but Johnson avoids the punch easily. Johnson shoots in but Hammi avoids the takedown attempt easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Johnson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hammi sprawls well initially but Johnson persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hammi wants to get back to his feet. Hammi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Johnson is working away from the top position though. Hammi wants to get back to his feet. Johnson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hammi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Johnson content to control rather than advance. Johnson prevents Hammi from improving his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson stops Hammi from getting back to his feet.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Hammi swings for the body but Johnson moves out of range.
Hammi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Hammi connects with a body shot. Hammi throws a hook but Johnson avoids it easily. Hammi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hammi stuns Johnson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Hammi misses with a wild body shot. Johnson fails to land the takedown. No luck for Johnson with that takedown attempt. Hammi throws a combination. Johnson tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
It looks like Bob Johnson has been cut. Hammi fails to land with a series of punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hammi lands a jab to the nose. Hammi digs a good body shot into Johnson's ribs. Johnson is breathing heavily. Johnson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Johnson drops his hands momentarily and Hammi takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. This has been an exciting period of action! Johnson takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Hammi connects with a nice looking jab.
Johnson is rocked! Hammi lands a hook that stumbles Johnson back into the cage. Hammi follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Johnson to the canvas! Hammi pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Johnson has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!
