Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ed Kowalczyk! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kowalczyk displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones. Kowalczyk fails to land with a series of punches.
Decent striking displayed by Kowalczyk there. Kowalczyk misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kowalczyk throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.

Kowalczyk throws a nice looking combination but Jones bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Kowalczyk throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Jones looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Kowalczyk moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Jones avoids a lazy jab quite easily. That's one minute gone in the round. Kowalczyk throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease. Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Kowalczyk uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Jones has time to react.
It looks like Jon Jones has been cut. Jones takes a jab right on the kisser.
Jones shoots for a double leg takedown but Kowalczyk sprawls well. He's pushed Jones's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jones slips a jab and a cross from Kowalczyk.

Kowalczyk throws a combination that misses and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Jones drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kowalczyk dives on top into guard. Jones is looking for a triangle but Kowalczyk pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kowalczyk is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Jones. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kowalczyk tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Jones wants to control but Kowalczyk postures up. Jones manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Jones throws a strike but Kowalczyk avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kowalczyk swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jones prevents Kowalczyk from getting back to his feet. Jones thows a big elbow that misses. Kowalczyk working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jones. Jones drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kowalczyk dives on top into guard. Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jones working a defensive guard but Kowalczyk passes into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Jones is looking for a sweep. Kowalczyk is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Jones is working hard here to advance position. Jones trying to get back to full guard but Kowalczyk takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Jones is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ed Kowalczyk dominated that round. The cut man is working on Jon Jones's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kowalczyk rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily. No joy there for Kowalczyk, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jon Jones will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Jon Jones's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Kowalczyk has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from. Jones is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kowalczyk is looking to stand up but Jones won't let him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Kowalczyk gets to his feet. Jones looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kowalczyk napping and manages to drive through into side control! Kowalczyk is trying to buck Jones off. Jones throwing shots but missing, from side control. Jones working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kowalczyk is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jones is controlling him well. Jon Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Jones thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Kowalczyk pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Kowalczyk changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Jon Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Kowalczyk moves out of range of the strikes. Kowalczyk falls off balance throwing a combination
and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kowalczyk won't be happy with that. Jones tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Jones swings around for an armbar but Kowalczyk sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Jones's guard. Jones throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kowalczyk escapes and throws Jones's legs to the side, diving into side control! Jones is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Kowalczyk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kowalczyk has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
And that's the end of the fight! Jon Jones showed his dominance in that final round. I think Jones has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
