Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Juan Verelea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bub Hewlett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hewlett has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Juan Verelea has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verelea scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Verelea swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Verelea rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hewlett moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Verelea lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Verelea looks to land a combination. Hewlett sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Hewlett shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Verelea as he avoids it easily.
Verelea goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Hewlett drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hewlett wants to stand but Verelea is controlling his posture from full guard.

Hewlett drops back, looking for a kneebar! Verelea looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Verelea looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Verelea!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hewlett jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Verelea manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Hewlett should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Hewlett is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Verelea is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hewlett thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Verelea is trying to control Hewlett's posture but Hewlett avoids it.

Hewlett is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Verelea knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Verelea gets back to half guard.
Verelea wants to get back to full guard.
Hewlett tries to stand and escape but Verelea actually recovers to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

and Verelea cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Verelea looks to land a combination but Hewlett avoids it well.

Hewlett closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hewlett prevents Verelea from standing back up.
Hewlett uses his free foot to push down on Verelea's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Verelea.

Hewlett looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bub Hewlett showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hewlett passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Verelea!

Hewlett moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Verelea has worked his arm free - good work by Verelea!

Hewlett decides to stand back up. Hewlett steps back and let's Verelea get back to his feet.
Verelea throws a combination. Hewlett tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Hewlett avoids a punch combination nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Juan Verelea showed his dominance in that final round.
