Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Johnson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Sharpe! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sharpe closes this distance looking for a takedown but Johnson circles away. Sharpe tries to clinch up but Johnson circles away and keeps his distance. Sharpe doesn't manage to clinch there - Johnson circles away.
Sharpe tries to clinch up. Sharpe tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Johnson keeps the fight on the outside. Sharpe tries to clinch up. Johnson drops Sharpe with a right and a left! Johnson comes rushing in but Sharpe regains his composure and manages to keep Johnson in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Sharpe throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Sharpe seems to have recovered his senses. Sharpe has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though. Sharpe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Sharpe manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson wants to sweep but no luck. Sharpe postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Johnson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sharpe, into his guard. Johnson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Sharpe looks gassed! Johnson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Johnson wants to pass the guard but Sharpe is keeping the position. Johnson wants to control from the top but Sharpe keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Johnson is looking to stand up but Sharpe won't let him. Johnson is stalling in the full guard. Johnson is looking to work some ground and pound but Sharpe has wrist control. Sharpe looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson stopping the sweep attempt from Sharpe. Sharpe isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Johnson stacks Sharpe on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Johnson! Sharpe is trying to improve his position. Johnson content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson decides to stand back up. Johnson closes the distance and clinches. Sharpe keeps control of Johnson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Johnson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Sharpe gets underhooks to prevent Johnson's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Johnson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sharpe smiles and moves away.
Johnson moves into range and clinches up with Sharpe. Johnson wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sharpe has him pressed against the cage. Johnson trying to land knees to the body.
Sharpe creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Johnson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Johnson jumps into guard, dragging Sharpe to the mat.
Sharpe looking to pass the guard. Sharpe pushes down on Johnson's leg and manages to get into half guard. Sharpe wants to work for an arm triangle but Johnson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sharpe darts in trying to clinch and Johnson counters by moving into the clinch. Johnson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sharpe jumps guard and drags Johnson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Sharpe working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Johnson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sharpe is looking for a triangle but Johnson pushes his legs off easily.
