PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Strict Bricks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerry Boot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bricks has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Strict Bricks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jerry Boot!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bricks dodges the punch combination from Boot.
Boot moves out of range as Bricks strikes.
Boot stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Boot wants it to stay on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Boot. No joy for Bricks on that attempt.

Bricks tries to keep at a distance but Boot has taken the fight into the clinch.

Boot pulls guard effortlessly.
Boot looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Bricks is breathing heavily.
Boot has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Boot pushes Bricks off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boot throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bricks's waist but Bricks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Boot off to one side.
Bricks fails to land with a series of punches.
Strict Bricks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bricks keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Bricks drives through and clinches with Boot against the cage.
Bricks wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Boot breaks the clinch.

Bricks gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Boot to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Boot postures up in Bricks's guard and throws a big left but Bricks blocks it.
Boot wants to control from the top but Bricks keeps moving.

Boot gets to his feet - Bricks follows without any prompting.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bricks throws a chopping leg kick but Boot manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Boot closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Bricks misses with a knee to the head.
Bricks goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Boot jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bricks walks away with a smile on his face. Boot gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Strict Bricks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Boot.
Boot fails with the takedown.
No luck for Boot with that takedown attempt.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Boot's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Bricks tries to break the clinch but Boot is controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Boot breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Boot scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Bricks can't do much from the bottom here.
Bricks is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Boot asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Boot thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Boot decides to stand back up. Boot steps back and let's Bricks get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boot displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bricks.
Boot fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boot lands a front kick.
Bricks misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Boot.
Boot tries for a takedown but Bricks circles away easily

and Bricks moves into the clinch.
Bricks tries to break free but Boot pushes him back against the cage.

Boot gets control of Bricks's arms and successfully pulls guard. Boot will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Boot dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Strict Bricks's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bricks misses with an uppercut.
Boot scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Bricks displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Boot.
A right-left combo lands from Boot.
Boot tries to close the distance and clinch but Bricks swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Boot goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


Strict Bricks's cut is getting worse.
Boot shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bricks as he avoids it easily.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Boot - that will leave a mark!
Boot changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bricks tries to avoid it but Boot manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bricks to the ground. Bricks escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Strict Bricks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Boot.
Bricks swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Boot counters with a slapping leg kick.
Bricks stuffs the takedown attempt from Boot. Boot gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bricks slaps away a takedown attempt from Boot, before circling back to the center of the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Boot is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bricks's half guard.
Boot is keen to just control but Bricks is a slippery customer.

Bricks looking for submissions off his back.
Boot not doing much here.
Boot wants to stand but Bricks has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Boot has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Bricks works to full guard.
Boot trying to control but Bricks is working from the bottom.
Bricks working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Boot.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Boot shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bricks as he avoids it easily.
Boot shoots in but no luck this time.
Boot is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bricks.
Nice sprawl there from Boot as Bricks shoots in.
Bricks takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Boot is looking to clinch but Bricks is avoiding it.
Bricks shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Boot sprawls well. Boot wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bricks gets slowly back to his feet.

Boot shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bricks manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bricks looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Bricks trying to control the position.
Boot wants to control from the top but Bricks keeps moving.
Bricks not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Boot showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Strict Bricks's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Boot changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bricks tries to avoid it but Boot manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bricks to the ground. Bricks escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bricks takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
The fight stays on the outside here - Boot looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Bricks gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Bricks on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bricks tries to get out of the position.
Boot works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Boot stops Bricks from getting back to his feet.

Bricks actively working from the bottom here.
Bricks wants to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boot working Bricks over with strikes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Boot stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Bricks just misses with a punch to the body.
Boot closes the distance and clinches up with Bricks, looking for a takedown. Boot pushes Bricks against the cage but Bricks circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Boot lands a jab to Bricks's midsection.
Boot throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bricks tries a head kick but it misses.
Bricks misses with a kick to the body

and Boot counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Boot being controlled here momentarily.
Bricks wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Boot is now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bricks is trying to get back to full guard.

Boot is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bricks is just riding it out for now. Boot eventually gives up the hold.
Boot throwing shots but Bricks is blocking nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boot stalling away here and it's allowed Bricks to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Boot trying to control the position from guard on top but Bricks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bricks wants to control the position but Boot says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Boot prevents Bricks from standing back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Boot fails with a takedown attempt.
Strict Bricks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Boot.
Boot slaps away a takedown attempt from Bricks, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Bricks defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Boot.
Strict Bricks has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bricks throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Boot throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Boot circles away from the clinch attempt

and Boot counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Jerry Boot is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Bricks works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Bricks looks to throw an elbow but misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jerry Boot comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Boot has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
