PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randy Ortis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maksim Drozdov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Randy Ortis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Maksim Drozdov!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Fedor Mirinova and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ortis instigates a clinch.

Drozdov ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Drozdov no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Drozdov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ortis's guard.
Drozdov throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ortis is pulling down on Drozdov's head. It's preventing any offense from Drozdov, at least for the moment.
Drozdov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ortis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drozdov stays in close to Ortis's body and controls the position.
Drozdov's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Ortis could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Drozdov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Drozdov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ortis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Drozdov is one step ahead there.

Drozdov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ortis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Drozdov has managed to get both his arms back between Ortis's legs - danger averted.
Drozdov throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ortis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Drozdov.

Drozdov working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ortis tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ortis striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Ortis is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
An elbow from Drozdov crashes against the mat.
Ortis tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Drozdov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Drozdov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Drozdov looks gassed!
You can see the frustration on Ortis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ortis is looking to regain half guard here but Drozdov keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Drozdov remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ortis fails with the takedown

and Drozdov decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ortis's guard.

Ortis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ortis being controlled here, momentarily.
Drozdov works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ortis wants to sweep but Drozdov has passed to side control!
Check out the look on Drozdov's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Drozdov controls the position.

Drozdov is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ortis has escaped the position, nice work there.
Ortis tries to bench press Drozdov off him but Drozdov keeps the position.
Drozdov working away.
Drozdov cracks Ortis with a big right hand but Ortis just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

The referee asks Drozdov politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Drozdov prefers to stall for the moment though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ortis is looking for a sweep.
Ortis is letting Drozdov control him for a moment.
Drozdov working the head and body with strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ortis is looking to regain half guard here but Drozdov keeps moving and retains side control.
Ortis is working to avoid the ground and pound but Drozdov connects with a decent elbow.
Ortis tries to buck Drozdov off but Drozdov is having none of it.

Drozdov in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Ortis is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Maksim Drozdov!
