Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joao Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramirez comes into the arena with Megadeth-Trust blaring out of the sound system. Alves has chosen Carl Orff - Carmina Burana - André Rieu's version as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Ramirez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Alves!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alves darts in and clinches Ramirez up against the cage.
Ramirez has had enough of the clinch but Alves keeps him there for the moment.
Alves using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Ramirez has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Ramirez tries for a takedown but Alves manages to get underhooks.

Ramirez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alves shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Alves looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ramirez controlling the position for now.
Alves throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ramirez gets back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ramirez pulls Alves in close to his closed guard and prevents Alves from doing any damage or advancing position.
Ramirez looking for a sweep. Not yet Ramirez, not yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ramirez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Alves is looking to get back to full guard here but Ramirez has managed to pass to side control instead.
Ramirez content just to control the position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ramirez trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ramirez tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Joao Alves will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ramirez connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Alves's hands.
Ramirez misses with the combination.
Ramirez moves out of range of the leg kick from Alves.
Ramirez cracks Alves with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Ramirez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alves sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ramirez somewhat.
Ramirez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Alves keeps the fight on the outside.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ramirez works over Alves's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Joao Alves has been cut.
Ramirez's corner calls for a 1-2. Ramirez obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Alves ducks right into an uppercut from Ramirez.


Alves is rocked!
Ramirez throws a right hand that Alves ducks under and follows up with a left that Alves also avoids with ease.
Ramirez misses the shot to the body.
Alves wants to clinch.
Ramirez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Alves counters with a series of strikes. Ramirez will be more careful next time no doubt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Ramirez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ramirez tries to clinch up but Alves circles away and keeps his distance.

Ramirez closes the distance and pushes Alves back into the cage.
Alves throws a knee to the head but misses.

Ramirez breaks the clinch.
Ramirez swings for the body but Alves moves out of range.
Ramirez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ramirez doesn't manage to clinch there - Alves circles away.
Ramirez shoots in for a takedown but Alves shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alves uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ramirez.
Alves rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ramirez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ramirez misses with a takedown

and Alves counters with a shoot takedown. Ramirez fights it but they end up in guard.
Ramirez controls Alves momentarily but Alves frees himself.

Alves works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Ramirez is trying to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ramirez has his hands clasped together around Alves's back. He's all about the action.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ramirez manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alex Ramirez will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Joao Alves's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Ramirez takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Ramirez lands a jab-cross combination.
Alves keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A slow jab from Ramirez misses its intended target.
Ramirez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Alves sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ramirez misses with a takedown attempt

and Alves counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ramirez won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ramirez is not content to let Alves control the position.
Ramirez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Alves is controlling him well.

Ramirez can't do much from the bottom here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ramirez is trying to buck Alves off.
Alves working away.

Ramirez keeping his opponent close.
Ramirez wants to control but Alves postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Alves clinches with his opponent.

Ramirez breaks from the clinch.
Alves keeps the fight on the outside.
Nice cross by Ramirez.
Alves closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Alves on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Ramirez misses with an uppercut. Alves saw that one coming.
Ramirez misses with a double jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joao Alves comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Alves has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
