PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Long Duc Dong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Metti Mottonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dong's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Turning Japanese. Metti Mottonen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Long Duc Dong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Metti Mottonen!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dong gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Dong successfully pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mottonen looking to sit in guard and control but Dong gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Dong postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dong wants to pass the guard but Mottonen is keeping the position.
Dong connects with a couple of short punches.
Dong trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Dong won't allow Mottonen to sweep him here.
Dong would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Dong stops Mottonen from standing up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Mottonen gets caught flat footed, as Dong shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dong stops Mottonen from standing up.
Mottonen pulls Dong in close to prevent any damage.

Dong postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mottonen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dong, into his guard.
Dong is breathing heavily.

Mottonen postures up in Dong's guard and throws a big left but Dong blocks it.
Dong is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mottonen works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mottonen tries to stand and escape but Dong is controlling the position.
Dong regains full guard. Nicely done.
Mottonen with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Mottonen scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Dong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mottonen chips away with some ground and pound.
Mottonen wants to control from the top but Dong keeps moving.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mottonen's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Dong not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dong tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mottonen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dong swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dong throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Dong feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Dong could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dong with a nice head shot there.

Dong stands and steps away. Mottonen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Metti Mottonen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Dong gets a clinch.
Mottonen with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
A bit of stalling here from Dong.

Dong pulls guard.

Dong looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Mottonen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Mottonen won't allow Dong to get back to his feet.
Mottonen won't allow Dong to sweep him here.
Mottonen passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Dong shoots in but Mottonen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mottonen tries to close the distance and clinch but Dong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Dong darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Mottonen wants to control but Dong is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Dong is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mottonen defends it well.
Mottonen tries to kick Dong off but Dong keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Dong wants to stand up but Mottonen manages to regain full guard.
Mottonen looking for a sweep. Not yet Mottonen, not yet.
Mottonen lands a decent shot there.
Mottonen wants to hit a switch here but Dong passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mottonen there!
Mottonen sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Dong is looking for submissions but instead, Mottonen has regained full guard.
Mottonen looking for a sweep. Not yet Mottonen, not yet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mottonen is looking to stand up but Dong isn't so interested in that idea.

Dong slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mottonen lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Dong blocks a head kick by Mottonen.
Mottonen tries to clinch but Dong is having none of it.

Mottonen changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Nice sprawl there from Mottonen as Dong shoots in.
Long Duc Dong is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mottonen lands a with a good body shot.
Dong misses with a takedown attempt - Mottonen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Dong drops back looking for a leg! Mottonen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mottonen manages to kick Dong off! Dong jumps back into Mottonen's guard.
Mottonen seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Dong wants to control from the top but Mottonen keeps moving.
Long Duc Dong overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mottonen manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Mottonen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Dong regains half guard.
Dong has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mottonen is working away from the top position though.

Dong manages to escape and get back to his feet!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dong.
Dong fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mottonen bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Dong's head backwards.
Dong tries to close the distance and clinch but Mottonen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dong throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mottonen's waist but Mottonen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dong off to one side.
Mottonen moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Mottonen misses with a straight left.
Dong looks to throw the jab but Mottonen is out of range.

Dong looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mottonen is in trouble now - Dong has advanced to mount!
Dong controlling his opponent.

Dong looking for a guillotine from mount but Mottonen is having none of it.

Dong lands a big shot there that rocks Mottonen but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Dong landing punches.
Mottonen wants to control but Dong is having none of it.

Dong gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Mottonen gets a clinch.
Dong with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Mottonen avoiding damage as Dong throws knees to the body.
Mottonen pushes off an throws an elbow but Dong leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Dong lands a nice knee to the body.

Dong lands a takedown into guard.
Mottonen wants to stand up but Dong is controlling him.
Dong is standing up over Mottonen. Mottonen looks to escape but Dong dives into side control.
Mottonen wants to control but Dong postures up.
Dong is working Mottonen over with some ground and pound from side control.

Dong landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dong working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Mottonen gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Mottonen is not content to let Dong control the position.
Dong wants to pass to mount but Mottonen is defending the position.
Mottonen is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mottonen moves into full guard.

Mottonen wriggles free and stands up.
Dong circles away from the clinch attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Long Duc Dong dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Dong looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mottonen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Dong is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mottonen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dong.
Dong wants to get back to his feet.

Dong is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mottonen won't allow Dong to pass to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mottonen misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mottonen kicks Dong off and gets back to his feet.

Dong has taken the fight to the clinch.
Dong tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mottonen just stands there and leans against the cage.

Mottonen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Dong has his foot on Mottonen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mottonen works his way back into a safe position though.

Dong escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mottonen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mottonen won't allow Dong to sweep him here.
Dong is working hard here to advance position.

Dong is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Dong is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mottonen is controlling him.

Dong has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Dong throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Mottonen trying to control the position from guard on top but Dong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dong has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mottonen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dong is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dong wants to get back to his feet but Mottonen is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Mottonen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Dong shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Dong tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mottonen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Dong seems to be working for a kimura but Mottonen defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dong takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Dong instigates a clinch.
Mottonen throws a knee to the head but misses.
Mottonen misses with a knee to the head.

Dong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dong bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Dong is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mottonen has escaped the position, nice work there.
Mottonen regains half guard.
Mottonen tries to roll over but Dong keeps him under control.
Mottonen is trying to stand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dong prevents Mottonen from improving his position.
Dong is looking to stall here but Mottonen recovers full guard.

Mottonen working for a triangle but Dong defends it easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Long Duc Dong showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dong, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
