Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jericho Datu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Datu comes to the cage accompanied by Ridin Dirty. Smith has chosen Give It All by Rise Against as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
19 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jericho Datu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Smith!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Smith crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Datu - the referee stops the clock and Smith gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Datu. Smith manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
A jab-cross combination lands for Smith and sends Datu crashing to the mat! Smith follows him down to the mat - Datu regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!
Datu is rocked!
It looks like Jericho Datu has been cut.
Datu wants to control but Smith is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Smith wants to stand but Datu has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Smith is taking a breather. Datu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Datu is holding on to half guard well.
Smith tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Datu.
Smith is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Smith looking to control but Datu is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Smith is looking to stand but Smith has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

Datu is looking to improve his position but Smith isn't that keen on the idea.
Smith tries to stand up but Datu grabs his leg and drags him down! Datu is now on top, in side control.
Datu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Datu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Smith tries to buck Datu off but Datu is having none of it.
Datu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Datu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Datu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Smith is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Smith is looking for a sweep.
Datu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Smith wants to get back to his feet.
Datu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Smith knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Smith is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Smith is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Datu pulls his head out easily.
Datu looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Datu is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Smith pushes Datu off looking to stand but Datu dives back in and keeps control.

Smith is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Datu off and has taken his back!

Datu manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
Smith takes a swing at Datu's ribcage but misses.

Horrible takedown by Smith or perhaps it was just good defense by Datu which made him look bad.
Datu closes the distance and pushes Smith back into the cage.
Datu tightens his grip and picks Smith up, before dumping him to the ground. Smith manages to land in guard.
Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Datu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Smith is looking for a triangle but Datu pushes his legs off easily.
Datu drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Datu jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Smith can't keep his opponent in guard - Datu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Datu slips a nice elbow through Smith's hands, connecting with Smith's forehead.

A close round but Mike Smith will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Smith throws a body punch but Datu moves out of range.
Datu feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Smith's calf.
Mike Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith lands a jab.
Jericho Datu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice defenses there by Datu.

Datu closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Smith did well to prevent Datu getting side control.
