Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Francesco Baja! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Martin Cartman! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Vladimir Khabensky and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cartman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Baja swivels and escapes. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Baja. Cartman shrugs it off though. Martin Cartman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cartman fails with a takedown attempt. Cartman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Francesco Baja has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martin Cartman. Cartman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Baja holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. Baja manages to get back to half guard. Cartman should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Cartman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Baja does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Baja keeps control of the position for the meantime. Cartman not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Baja is trying to maintain the position but Cartman is very close to passing his half guard. Baja is looking to improve his position.
Cartman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Baja trying to control from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Baja is staying active underneath Cartman, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. No luck for Cartman with that takedown attempt. Baja fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cartman looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Cartman slaps away a takedown attempt from Baja, before circling back to the center of the mat. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Baja. Cartman shrugs it off though. Cartman looks gassed! Cartman doesn't succeed with the takedown and Baja holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Baja lands a takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Cartman keeping full guard, as Baja tries to pass. Cartman is looking for a triangle but Baja pushes his legs off easily.

Baja trying to mount his opponent but Cartman defends it. Baja will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Baja in particular looking to stall.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Cartman is trying to control but can't.
Cartman is looking to get back to full guard here but Baja has managed to pass to side control instead. Baja knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cartman on the ground. Cartman tries to reverse the position but Baja maintains control. Cartman bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Baja is pulling down on Cartman's head. It's preventing any offense from Cartman, at least for the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Baja turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Baja manages to end up in side control. Cartman can't do much from the bottom here. Cartman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Baja wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Cartman is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cartman misses with a takedown attempt and Baja counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Baja has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Cartman clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Baja is riding his opponent, not letting Cartman buck him off. You can see the frustration on Cartman's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Baja really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Cartman is in bad spot here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Cartman shoots and misses and Baja counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Cartman!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cartman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Cartman regains half guard. Cartman tries to roll over but Baja keeps him under control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cartman gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Baja counters with a solid body kick. Cartman has his takedown stuffed and Baja counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Cartman misses with a takedown and Baja counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Cartman thinking. Baja changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Cartman gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Baja counters with a single leg into guard. Cartman didn't expect that. Cartman trying to control the position.
Cartman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Baja defends well.

Cartman is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Baja's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Baja's back!

Cartman tries to get the hooks in deep but Baja pushed the leg off. Baja wriggles onto his back under a barage of strikes. Cartman is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Baja has managed to escape the submission attempt.

And that's the end of the fight! Francesco Baja showed his dominance in that final round. Well Baja has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
