PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryuzaki Kimura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mir comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Runnin kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryuzaki Kimura! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Mir! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mir doesn't manage to clinch there - Kimura circles away.
Diego Mir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kimura closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Mir is defending against the submission attempts here by Kimura.
Kimura is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Kimura trying to mount his opponent but Mir defends it. Mir is trying to stand back up but Kimura is controlling him
That's one minute gone in the round. Kimura perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Mir looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kimura passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mir! Mir is trying desperately to improve position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kimura cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Mir is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Mir can't escape the position.
Kimura takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mir looks gassed! Mir is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Kimura controlling from the full mount. Kimura has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mir's face.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Mir is looking to get to half guard. Kimura goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Mir is on top in guard.
Kimura pushes Mir off and scrambles back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryuzaki Kimura dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Kimura looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Kimura is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Kimura seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mir for as long as he can get away with. Mir is breathing heavily.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Ryuzaki Kimura just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Kimura keeps the fight on the outside.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kimura circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kimura closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Kimura controls the position. Kimura connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Mir some visible discomfort.
Kimura landing strikes. Kimura working the ground and pound from side control. Kimura in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Kimura controls the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kimura is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mir knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Check out the look on Kimura's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
A lull in the action here as Kimura stalls from top position. Kimura's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kimura landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Kimura looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Kimura in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Kimura politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Kimura prefers to stall for the moment though. Kimura is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Mir looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kimura gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Mir is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kimura lets go of the hold and Mir can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ryuzaki Kimura!
