Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Edson Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guilherme Cardoso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edson Mendes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Guilherme Cardoso! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendes moves into the clinch. Mendes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cardoso smiles and moves away.
Nice sprawl there from Mendes as Cardoso shoots in. Cardoso closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Mendes tries to improve position but can't. Cardoso working away. Mendes is trying to improve his position. Mendes can't do much from the bottom here. Cardoso trying to control the action but Mendes is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendes is looking for a sweep.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mendes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cardoso swats him away and circles back towards the center. A head kick misses from Cardoso. Cardoso tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Mendes holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Mendes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cardoso just stands there and leans against the cage. Cardoso goes for a takedown attempt but Mendes pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A head kick by Cardoso misses and Mendes holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Cardoso trying to land knees to the body.
Mendes manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Mendes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cardoso doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cardoso manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Cardoso stays in close to Mendes's body and controls the position. Cardoso trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mendes is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Mendes has his foot on Cardoso's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cardoso works his way back into a safe position though. Cardoso decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mendes, up you get! Mendes leaves Cardoso with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Edson Mendes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Guilherme Cardoso.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cardoso shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Mendes is breathing heavily. Mendes is trying to control the position but Cardoso postures up. Cardoso with a flurry of punches that miss. Cardoso is looking to stand up but Mendes won't let him. Cardoso slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Mendes working for submissions but it's allowed Cardoso to get to half guard.
Mendes tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Cardoso has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Mendes tries to reverse the position but Cardoso maintains control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Poor strikes thrown by Cardoso there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cardoso controlling the pace for now. Mendes really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Cardoso tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Guilherme Cardoso dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Cardoso wants to slow Mendes down by chopping away at his legs. Cardoso darts in and clinches Mendes up against the cage. Mendes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cardoso walks away with a smile on his face. Mendes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Cardoso throws a sloppy head kick and Mendes counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Mendes jumps guard but Cardoso stands there with Mendes around his waist. Mendes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edson Mendes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cardoso lands a left hand that snaps the head of Mendes backwards. A battle for position here, against the cage. Mendes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cardoso smiles and moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cardoso shoots in for a takedown but Mendes shows good takedown defense. Cardoso throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mendes's waist but Mendes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cardoso off to one side. Mendes with a poor takedown and Cardoso counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mendes! Mendes is wriggling around trying to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cardoso unloads with some shots from mount but Mendes bucks and avoids them well.
Cardoso throws some wild stikes that Mendes manages to avoid easily.
Cardoso sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Mendes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Cardoso thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Mendes slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Cardoso tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Cardoso is controlling the pace.
Cardoso is pressing down on Mendes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mendes is holding on for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendes is not content to let Cardoso control the position. Mendes has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Cardoso escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Cardoso! Mendes is looking for a sweep. Cardoso misses with the ground and pound. Mendes is looking to reverse the position. Mendes trying to remain calm as Cardoso controls from the top position. Mendes gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Cardoso takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Cardoso decides to stand up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cardoso shoots in but no luck this time. Cardoso shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mendes sprawls well. Mendes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cardoso gets slowly back to his feet. Mendes is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Cardoso. Mendes dodges the punch combination from Cardoso.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Guilherme Cardoso showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Mendes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Cardoso looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Cardoso throws a wild body kick that Mendes sees coming a mile off. Cardoso scores with a three punch combo!

Cardoso displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mendes. Cardoso throws a lazy head kick and Mendes counters by clinching up. Mendes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cardoso just stands there and leans against the cage. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Mendes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cardoso just stands there and leans against the cage. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Cardoso goes for a takedown attempt but Mendes pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Cardoso not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Mendes keeping moving, preventing Cardoso from controlling successfully. Mendes working for a triangle but Cardoso defends it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Cardoso thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Cardoso slows the pace down in half guard. Mendes looking for submissions off his back. Cardoso is trying to work for a kimura but Mendes is defending well.
Cardoso keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Cardoso stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Mendes to get to his feet.
