Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rogerio Carvalho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryan Gailfus!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gailfus.
Carvalho has managed to clinch.
Carvalho can't break the clinch.
Gailfus tries to land a knee to the head but Carvalho blocks with his arms.
Carvalho has had enough of the clinch but Gailfus keeps him there for the moment.
Carvalho drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gailfus gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Carvalho stops a takedown attempt from Gailfus.
Gailfus is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Gailfus throws an elbow but it misses.
Gailfus has Carvalho pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Carvalho manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Rogerio Carvalho has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Gailfus.
Carvalho stops a takedown attempt from Gailfus.
Carvalho breaks from the clinch.
Carvalho misses with an attempted mid kick.
Gailfus gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Gailfus takes one to the side of the head.
Carvalho leaves Gailfus with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Carvalho closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.
Carvalho lands a takedown into guard.
Carvalho passes Gailfus's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gailfus is staying active underneath Carvalho, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Carvalho is looking to advance position but Gailfus won't allow it.
Carvalho moves nicely into side control.
Carvalho has hold of Gailfus's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Gailfus tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Carvalho cranks the arm and Gailfus screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Gailfus, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Rogerio Carvalho!
