Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeremy Hardy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Jones! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Hardy wants a takedown.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hardy gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hardy breaks the clinch.
Nice sprawl there from Hardy as Jones shoots in. Jones misses with a low kick.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hardy as he avoids it easily. Jeremy Hardy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Jones. Hardy tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Jones throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hardy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Jones has Hardy pulled in close to control his posture. Jones is trying to control the position but Hardy postures up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hardy with a flurry of punches that miss. Hardy looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hardy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jones's guard. Jones is staying active underneath Hardy, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hardy is thwarting Jones's attempts to control the position. Hardy seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Hardy seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jones for as long as he can get away with.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Hardy's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Hardy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Jones is trying to stand.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jeremy Hardy just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Hardy counters with a nice double leg into guard. Hardy slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Jones keeping full guard, as Hardy tries to pass.

Jeremy Hardy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hardy gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Jones tries to clinch up and Hardy counters with a single leg into guard. Jones didn't expect that. Hardy slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Jones is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Hardy instigates a clinch. Hardy pulls guard. Jones wants to control from the top but Hardy keeps moving. Jones throws a strike but Hardy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Hardy sitting in guard, not really doing much. Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Hardy wants to pass the guard but Jones is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hardy is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Hardy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from. Hardy slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Hardy trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom. Hardy controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Hardy wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving. Hardy decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jones, up you get! Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Hardy counters with a nice double leg into guard. Hardy is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jones can do to turn this around? Hardy showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Hardy stopping the sweep attempt from Jones.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hardy content to stall in guard here. Hardy stands up and waves to Jones to follow him.

And that's the end of the fight! Jeremy Hardy showed his dominance in that final round. Well Hardy has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
