The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

madison is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Penn's half guard.
madison is stalling here. Penn is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! madison seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Penn has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
madison is trying to escape the position but Penn is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Penn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
madison wants to improve his position but Penn is controlling well.
Penn is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Penn's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
madison is positioning himself well to prevent Penn advancing to mount.

madison might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Penn kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Penn stalling away here and it's allowed madison to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Penn controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Bj Penn just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

madison shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Penn napping and manages to drive through into side control!

madison decides to stand back up. madison steps back and let's Penn get back to his feet.

Penn seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down madison for as long as he can get away with.

The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from madison, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
