Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Willians Trautman! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sergio Martinez! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martinez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Trautman. Trautman ducks under a wild hook from Martinez. Trautman throws a hook but Martinez avoids it easily. Trautman shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Trautman staying out of range there. Trautman closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Martinez did well to prevent Trautman getting side control. Trautman wants to control but Martinez is keeping him busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Martinez tries to kick Trautman off but Trautman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Trautman thows a huge punch but Martinez dodges it nicely.
Martinez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Trautman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Trautman is trying to control the action in half guard but Martinez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Martinez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Trautman stops Martinez from getting back to his feet.
Trautman works his way into side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Martinez can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Nice defenses there by Trautman. Trautman connects with a right hand. Martinez shakes it off. Martinez misses the shot to the body. Horrible takedown by Trautman or perhaps it was just good defense by Martinez which made him look bad. Trautman dodges the punch combination from Martinez.

Martinez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Trautman drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Trautman is looking to work some ground and pound but Martinez has wrist control. Trautman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Martinez keeping moving, preventing Trautman from controlling successfully. Martinez wants to stand and escape but Trautman is having none of it. Trautman won't allow Martinez to get back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. The fight stays on the outside here - Trautman looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Trautman uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Martinez. Trautman shoots for a double leg takedown but Martinez sprawls well. He's pushed Trautman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. "I don't think so" says Martinez as he avoids it easily. Martinez slaps away a takedown attempt from Trautman, before circling back to the center of the mat. Trautman shoots in but Martinez avoids the takedown attempt easily. Sergio Martinez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Martinez moves away from the strike by Trautman. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Trautman keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Martinez. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Trautman moves into range and connects with a jab. Martinez misses with a straight right. Trautman won't let Martinez get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Poor strikes thrown by Trautman there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over. Martinez's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trautman is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Trautman hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
