Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brent Squires (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ulf Minutsak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ulf Minutsak has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brent Squires!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ulf Minutsak!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Minutsak pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Squires scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Ulf Minutsak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Squires feints and as Minutsak raises his hands in defense, Squires changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Squires is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Squires throws a big right hand that misses.
Squires's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Squires controls from within his opponent's guard.

Squires's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Minutsak tries to roll over but Squires keeps him under control.
Squires is thwarting Minutsak's attempts to control the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Squires is nestled in close to Minutsak, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Squires seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Squires seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Minutsak for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Minutsak wants to get back to full guard but Squires has passed into side control.

Squires wants to control the pace but Minutsak is squirming around nicely.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Brent Squires just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

and Squires counters with a right hand to the body.

Minutsak takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Squires throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Minutsak stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Minutsak takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Minutsak stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Squires.
A left and a right from Squires both land. Nice combination.
Squires catches Minutsak with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Squires closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.


Minutsak is rocked!
Squires is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Squires trying to advance position but Minutsak counters by regaining guard.
Squires stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Minutsak swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Squires controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Minutsak lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Squires!
Squires sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Squires is looking for a sweep. Minutsak is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Squires is trying to stand up here but Minutsak is controlling him well.
Minutsak not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Minutsak thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Squires to regain full guard.

Squires keeping moving, preventing Minutsak from controlling successfully.

Squires is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Minutsak swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Squires makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Squires wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Squires dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Squires punishes Minutsak's body with a nice straight punch.
Squires closes the distance and lands a one-two.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Squires is looking to wear down Minutsak with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Squires seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Squires looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Squires is looking to advance position but Minutsak won't allow it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Minutsak avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Squires seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Minutsak throws a left and a right that both miss

Minutsak regains half guard, as Squires was trying to land strikes.

Minutsak is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Squires pulls his head out easily.

Minutsak wants to control but Squires is keeping busy.
Minutsak takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Squires not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Squires takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Squires looks to land a strike but Minutsak avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Squires postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Squires has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Squires takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Minutsak tries to lock up and control but Squires gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Squires is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Minutsak can do to turn this around?
Minutsak is wriggling around trying to escape.

Well Squires has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
