Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joao Cavaquinho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clifton Burner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cavaquinho's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Slam. Joao Cavaquinho could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Clifton Burner's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joao Cavaquinho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clifton Burner!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burner leaves Cavaquinho with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Burner wants to clinch.

Cavaquinho slips nicely into half guard.

Cavaquinho is looking for a kimura here.
Burner tries to roll over but Cavaquinho keeps him under control.
Burner is in trouble now - Cavaquinho has advanced to mount!

Cavaquinho is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Burner can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Cavaquinho is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Burner is surviving well by controlling Cavaquinho's body position as best he can.

Burner has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Burner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cavaquinho. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Burner tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Burner is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Cavaquinho is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Burner can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Burner is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Cavaquinho with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cavaquinho wants to finish this one by submission but Burner is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Cavaquinho.

Cavaquinho moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Burner has worked his arm free - good work by Burner!
Cavaquinho tries to advance to mount but Burner denies him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burner manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burner clinches up with Cavaquinho and pushes him back against the cage.
Cavaquinho gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Burner.
Cavaquinho has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Burner avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Burner stuffs the takedown attempt from Cavaquinho. Cavaquinho gets slowly back to his feet.
Joao Cavaquinho is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Burner misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cavaquinho looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Burner is trying to stand up here but Cavaquinho is controlling him well.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Cavaquinho here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Cavaquinho might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Burner postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Burner wants to stand but Cavaquinho has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Burner is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cavaquinho.
Burner moves in looking to clinch but Cavaquinho pushes him off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Burner counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Burner.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joao Cavaquinho. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A close second round but Clifton Burner will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Cavaquinho changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Burner looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Burner wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Burner can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cavaquinho uses his free foot to push down on Burner's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Burner.

Burner tries to lock up and control but Cavaquinho gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Cavaquinho is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Burner is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Burner flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Cavaquinho anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Burner and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Cavaquinho slips an arm under Burner chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Cavaquinho has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Cavaquinho is squeezing on Burner like an anaconda would it's prey. Burner fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Joao Cavaquinho!
