Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Peter Compton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Willingberg! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Hirohito Nitta and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Compton closes this distance looking for a takedown but Willingberg circles away. A head kick misses from Compton. Nice sprawl there from Willingberg as Compton shoots in. Compton tries to clinch up. Willingberg takes a jab right on the kisser.
Compton shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Willingberg pinned against the cage. Willingberg gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Compton. That's going to take a lot out of him. Compton lands a high kick!
Compton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Willingberg avoids a punch combination nicely.
Compton throws a head kick that misses. Compton clinches. Willingberg manages to break the clinch.
Compton looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Willingberg is fending him off so far but Compton persists. Nope, Willingberg circles away and we're back to standing. Compton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Compton is breathing heavily. Compton shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Compton throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Willingberg avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Compton misses with a kick to the body.
Compton throws a sloppy head kick and Willingberg moves out of range easily. Willingberg tries to clinch but Compton moves out of range. Willingberg has managed to clinch.
Willingberg jumps into guard, dragging Compton to the mat.
Compton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Willingberg is proving hard to escape from. Willingberg wants to get back to his feet but Compton is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Compton passes into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Compton not landing any meaningful shots this time. Compton throwing shots but Willingberg is blocking nicely. Willingberg is trying to stand.
Compton thows a huge punch but Willingberg dodges it nicely.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Compton misses with a double jab.
Willingberg tries to clinch but Compton is having none of it. Willingberg keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Compton sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Willingberg to the ground! Compton dives into full mount looking to finish!
Willingberg is rocked!
It looks like James Willingberg has been cut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Compton controlling the position easily from mount. Willingberg is still on wobbly legs! Can Compton finish him? Compton thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Willingberg seems to have recovered his senses. Compton working away from the top, dropping strikes. Compton connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Compton misses with a head shot. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Compton misses with a head shot. Compton throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Willingberg because Compton loaded up on that one. Compton in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Willingberg is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Compton lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Compton stands up from mount. Strange move. Willingberg dodges the punch combination from Compton.
Compton scores with a head kick.
Compton shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Compton misses with a body kick. Compton fails with the takedown. Compton takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Willingberg clinches up against the ropes. Willingberg breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Willingberg lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Compton backs up against the ropes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Peter Compton dominated that round. The cut man is working on James Willingberg's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Compton tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Willingberg swivels and escapes. Compton throws a combination that misses and Willingberg counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Compton is looking to improve his position.
Compton looks like he's trying to stand up.
Compton looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Willingberg decides to stand up. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Willingberg darts in and clinches Compton up against the ropes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Compton drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Willingberg gets underhooks to prevent Compton's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Compton. That's going to take a lot out of him. Willingberg with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Compton escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Compton shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Willingberg counters with a single leg into guard. Compton didn't expect that. Compton is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Willingberg rolls with it to try and escape but Compton cranks on the arm and Willingberg is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
