Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gregg Valentine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Selwoods (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Valentine comes into the arena with Shutterbug by Big Boi blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gregg Valentine! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Selwoods! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Dean Styles and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Selwoods uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Valentine. Selwoods shoots in but Valentine avoids the takedown attempt easily. Valentine throws a nice inside leg kick. Valentine throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Selwoods tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Valentine paws at him with a jab and circles away. Valentine with a nice cross. Selwoods takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Valentine misses with a body shot.
Selwoods is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Selwoods lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Valentine circles away quickly and effectively. Selwoods slips a straight right by Valentine. Selwoods misses with a jab to the body
letting Valentine counter with a right hand. Excellent takedown into side control there by Selwoods.
That's one minute gone in the round. Selwoods is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Valentine has escaped the position, nice work there. Valentine manages to get back to half guard. Valentine works his way to full guard. Good work. Valentine manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Selwoods manages to get himself to full guard.
Valentine passes Selwoods's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Valentine wants to pass the guard but Selwoods is defending well. Selwoods looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Selwoods looks gassed! Valentine is looking to take a break and control but Selwoods is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Valentine not doing much here.
Selwoods wants to control but Valentine is keeping busy and won't allow it. Selwoods looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Selwoods is trying to control but Valentine passes into side control!
Selwoods tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Valentine wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Valentine circles away from the clinch attempt and Valentine counters with a stiff right hand. Selwoods fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Valentine avoids it really well and circles away. Nice shot lands for Valentine. Valentine fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Selwoods manages to avoid it. Valentine lands with a right hand. Valentine swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Selwoods closes the distance and clinches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Valentine is pressed up against the cage. Selwoods has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Valentine down to the mat. Valentine avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Gregg Valentine has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Selwoods. Valentine throws a nice outside leg kick. Valentine connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Nice defenses there by Valentine. Valentine takes a swing at Selwoods's ribcage but misses. Valentine misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A shot to the liver by Valentine. Beautiful body shot. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Valentine throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Valentine buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Valentine scores with a hook to the body. Selwoods takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Valentine sizes up Selwoods with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Selwoods tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gregg Valentine dominated that round. That's time! Valentine's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Selwoods is rocked! Selwoods drops his hands momentarily. Valentine doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Selwoods staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Selwoods doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Gregg Valentine! Gregg Valentine retains his welterweight title!
