PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sebastian Mercy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oli Bobo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sebastian Mercy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oli Bobo!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Lou da Vinci and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mercy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mercy has gone for a leg lock! Bobo slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mercy's guard.
Mercy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Bobo stopping the sweep attempt from Mercy.
Mercy trying to keep a closed guard but Bobo is proving a slippery customer.
Mercy is pulling down on Bobo's head. It's preventing any offense from Bobo, at least for the moment.
Mercy looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mercy lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bobo!
Bobo is desperately trying to improve his position but Mercy has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mercy trying to control but Bobo is having none of it.
Mercy throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Mercy can't control as he wanted to and Bobo manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Mercy is keen to just control but Bobo is a slippery customer.
Mercy looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mercy seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Mercy is taking a breather. Bobo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Mercy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mercy is breathing heavily.
Bobo wants to get back to his feet.
Bobo tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bobo looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bobo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bobo fails with an attempt to clinch.

Bobo shoots in and bounces Mercy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mercy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mercy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bobo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Bobo pushes Mercy off looking to stand but Mercy dives back in and keeps control.
Mercy scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Mercy takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mercy seems to be looking for submissions.
Mercy works his way into full mount!
Bobo wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Mercy.

Mercy has hold of Bobo's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Bobo manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Mercy wants to control the pace but Bobo is squirming around nicely.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sebastian Mercy dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Mercy dances in with a quick combination. Bobo is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Mercy snaps Bobo's head back. Bobo stumbles backwards against the cage. Mercy steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Bobo's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Bobo just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Sebastian Mercy!
